PTA NEWS BLAST
August 24, 2014

Welcome from PTA President Dennis Johnson

Greetings, it is my honor to be PTA President again this year.  Last year at this time I was wondering how both my young men were somehow already in high school; which leads us to this year and the oldest being a Senior...Wow time flies!

I know that you all want to get your students off to a great start for the school year, yet it is a very hectic time of year. Therefore, I will keep your focus on the 5 items you can do to get off to a great start this school year.

1. Join the PTA

This is the first, simplest and most necessary step. The influence our PTA carries is proportionate with the size of our membership.  Last year we had a 50% increase in membership to 373!  Help us get to our current year goal of 500 members.  Dues start at as little as $7.  Also, there just isn't a better way to stay connected with what is going on Paschal than being a PTA member, so click this link to the membership form.

2.  Interact with Principal Mossige

Speaking of staying connected, mark your calendar for Thursday, September 4 at 8:45 a.m. Before our 9:30 a.m. PTA Board Meeting, we would like to have you join us for coffee and some dialogue with Dr. Mossige.

3.  Open House

Hopefully you already have this on your calendar for 6:30 p.m. on Monday, September 8. It is a great opportunity to meet your student's teachers and tour the school. We also have our first General Membership Meeting of the PTA at the start of the program which will give you a chance to learn a bit more about the PTA.

4.  Site Based

One more reason to attend Open House is to vote on 1 parent representative to join Site Based which is a cross functional group that serves as an advisory council to Principal Mossige. Better yet, put your hat in the ring and run for election. I am starting my 4th year on Site Based and have benefited greatly from my time served. There is generally one meeting a month. If you are interested, please submit a short bio to Christine.Cole@fwisd.org by Tuesday, September 2 to obtain a spot on the ballot for election.

5.  Look for more info to come

Our PTA like all organizations must continue to morph to continue to provide all the needed support to your school, including financial.  We are going to change up our fundraising efforts a bit this year, so look for additional information in the near term and please be generous in supporting our wonderful school.

Here's to a successful and satisfying school year for all!
