A Message from PTA President Dennis Johnson

Greetings, I would like to point out just a few items to you, but each one is very important.

Mark your Calendar for 8TH GRADE ROUNDUP on this THURSDAY FEBRUARY 13 at 6:00 P.M.  The PTA conducts a short General Membership Meeting at the beginning of this event.  Also please take the opportunity this evening to nominate yourself for next year's PTA Board.

Mark your Calendar again, this time for TEA WITH TERRI on THURSDAY MARCH 6 at 4:00 P.M. in the Library.  This PTA sponsored event is a great opportunity to interact with Dr Mossige our Principal.  The PTA Board will meet immediately following the Tea with Terri.

Please see the article below on the Willing & Able Program.  These are real world needs for students at OUR SCHOOL, please count your own blessings and give generously.

Hope to see you at the upcoming events!

What is the Willing & Able Program at Paschal High School?

The Willing and Able program helps our students meet their basic needs so we can prepare all students for academic success. Many of our students who are economically disadvantaged need the support, love and care as they begin preparing for college and career opportunities and leadership.

Many of our students walk the halls without school supplies, backpacks and key essentials to help with their organization and academic success. More importantly many students need basic supplies such as toiletries, clothes and snacks because they are tired and hungry. All students need to feel valuable, loved and accepted. They need to feel important and respected. They need to feel good about attending school and they need folks to believe in them. Many students come to school every day with needs we all take for granted. They may go unnoticed in the halls but they are there walking next to your son or daughter.

"Every child deserves a champion - an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection, and insists that they become the best that they can possibly be." - Rita Pierson

Maybe, you can help us be their champions? Can you help our counselors and intervention specialists fill those needs?

The Willing & Able Closet is up and running thanks to the generous donations of Paschal families. The physical closet is located on campus and we have started to fill the shelves. In fact, yesterday three students were given "gifts" to help support their needs.

We have taken the single step of supplying the closet with toiletries, school supplies, food/snacks & new paschal shirts. We are need of:

·       Gift cards to Target, Wal-Mart, Old Navy, etc.

·       Restaurant gift cards

·       Grocery gift cards

·       Cash/checks made out to the PHS educational foundation

Here are a few of the items your donations provided:

·  Food and gifts for three students during the holiday season

·  A computer was donated to a sick student who misses school due      to dialysis and hospitalization

·  Backpacks filled with school supplies for several students

·  A gas card purchased for a returning student who wanted to finish      high school while supporting his family.

(He was having difficulty finding the resources to get back and                      forth to school and work.)

·  Containers with healthy snacks and drinks for the counselors and        intervention specialists

·  Coats

We will be happy to pick up gift cards, cash or check from you or you can mail them to us.

Are you willing? Are you able? Can you please help?

Thank you for helping our counseling department and intervention specialists fill these needs for our students. We are Paschal. We are family!

NHS Information

The next chapter meeting for National Honor Society will be Friday, February 21, in room 204 at 8:10 a.m. or 3:40 p.m..  Members who have conflicts before and after school may stop by room 203 during period 7 to sign in and be debriefed.  The meeting counts as a chapter activity.

NHS members can preorder t-shirts from Mr. Wright in room 203.  T-shirt sales benefit the chapter scholarship fund.  T-shirts cost $10.00 and must be pre-ordered by Friday, February 28.  Ordering a t-shirt counts towards service time (since it benefits the chapter scholarship fund) and as a chapter activity.

All NHS members need to have turned in documentation for at least 18 service hours by April 7 and need to have

participated in at least 6 chapter activities by the beginning of April.  Members who do not fulfill these requirements face probation and possible dismissal.  We hope to recognize all 200 of our members at graduation in June!
