Paschal High School
PTA NEWS BLAST
Feb. 11, 2013

From PTA President Debra Million

This past week I had the opportunity to watch the Paschal Whiz Quiz team win the City Championship. The audience of parents and faculty members exchanged amazed looks at some of the answers given by our students. It was great fun and just one of the many events in which Paschal students excel. Even as I write my column this weekend, our students are spread across the state representing Dear Old Paschal.

On Saturday, Visual Art students showcased their talent in the VASE (Visual Art Scholastic Event) competition. Art Teachers Victoria Peloubet, Trae Herbelin, Andrew Davila and Cavan Crane took a busload of students to Mansfield. Students who receive a Superior Rating will advance to the State Event in Clear Creek near Houston in April.

The PHS Orchestra is sending one of our violinists, sophomore Mary Taylor, to San Antonio to perform with the All-State Philharmonic Orchestra, Feb. 13-16.

Just a few miles away from here in Arlington, the Paschal Wrestling Team under the guidance of Coach Travis Clark competed in the Region 1 Wrestling Championships. Wrestlers that qualify for the State Wrestling Championships will head to Austin on Feb. 21.

Out in West Texas, 16 members of the Paschal Swim Team under the direction of Coach Marshall Campbell competed in the Regional Swim Meet in Lubbock. In addition to the many individual swimmers who made finals, two swimmers came in first advancing to the State Meet in Austin on Feb. 22-23: senior Kyle Verdeyen in the 500-meter free style and sophomore Summer Campbell in the 100-meter fly.

And right here in Fort Worth, Paschal recently had three senior members of the football team, Ben Noel, Armando Gomez and Tyler Smith, named to the THSCA Academic All-State Team. To earn this honor is no small feat, as players must have a 95 average or above in all classes as well as an excellent SAT score.

Once all these students get back to the halls of Paschal, they will spend their hours as they and many others do every day: studying, practicing and volunteering. I'm so proud to represent Paschal High School in Fort Worth, Texas, because of these students and so many others like them. Hail Dear Old Paschal!

Thanks for Making 'Lucky 13' a Success!

What a great night for PHS last Saturday at the 13th Annual Auction and Dinner! A lot of money was raised to benefit ALL of Paschal's students and faculty. The Auction would not have been possible without the generosity of our Panther community. Thank you to all who sponsored, donated many great items or just showed up to have fun!  The Auction Committee has put in many volunteer hours and has worked very hard to make the Auction a huge success. THANK YOU for making such a difference in our children's lives.

Paschal Wins Huge Science Competition
On Feb. 2, more than 20 high schools from as far away as Lubbock participated in the Legacy High School UIL B invitational. Approximately 270 students competed in the science competition. Paschal had the winning upperclassmen team by one question! The team members include Dominic Yurk, Erik Nguyen and John Heo. The underclassmen team won in very impressive fashion with a score of 764 (the second place team had a score of 294). Team members included Wyatt Reeves, Edward Nguyen and Paul Ryu. More than 20 Paschal students competed in the science competition with several students earning personal bests. Congrats to all of these dedicated science enthusiasts!
