Paschal High School
PTA NEWS BLAST
Aug. 26, 2012

Welcome from PTA President Debra Million

I am proud and honored to serve as your PTA President this year. Your PTA Board is already hard at work supporting the teachers, staff and administration of Paschal High School to get this year off to a smooth start. Working together we can make Paschal an even better place for every student.

The theme for Texas PTA this year is Get Connected! I can't think of a better way to stay connected to what's going on at Paschal than getting involved with PTA. You can support PTA in many ways. Becoming a member of PTA is the first step, but we need more than just your dues. We need your time, your energy and your talent! I know families are busier than ever but no matter how much time you may have -- whether it's a little or a lot -- please volunteer. To help you make a quick connection, here is the link to the membership form. (Dues are only $6!) And here is more information about how to volunteer.

Besides membership dues, the PTA raises money all year through a variety of projects. There are concession stand lunches, sales of the latest spirit items for the die-hard purple fan from Rascal's, and our annual Dinner and Auction, scheduled for Feb. 9, 2013.

Through all these fundraisers, at the end of the 2011-2012 school year, the PTA distributed more than $55,000 to PHS organizations from Art, Athletics, Band, Choir, Chemistry, Engineering, Graphic Design, JROTC, Math, Mariachi Panteras, Orchestra, Vagabond Players, World Languages and much more. Your money really does go to support your student, regardless of his or her interest!

PTA is working to get you connected to all things Paschal. If you are receiving this newsletter, then you are probably familiar with our website and have subscribed to our e-newsletter or are on other PHS distribution lists. Please let other parents, especially Freshmen parents, know about the Paschal website, www.paschalhs.org, where you can find calendars, schedules, faculty and staff emails, information and announcements all year long.

Our first General Membership meeting will be at Open House on Monday, Sept. 10, at 6 p.m. Don't forget to bring a copy of your child's schedule. You will have the opportunity to tour the school, meet other parents and your child's teachers.

So get connected to Paschal! Join our PTA and stay informed. Together we can keep the tradition of excellence that Paschal Panthers have been known for since 1885.

Rascals Spirit Store Open Tuesday-Thursday This Week

Come by Rascal's on Aug. 28, 29 and 30 from 3:30-4:15 p.m. to get your purple on! Check out our new T-shirts, hats, visors and Panther rope necklaces.  We also carry water bottles, tumblers, coffee mugs and many other spirit items.  Our normal hours will start the second week on Wednesdays during lunch plus one or two days after school.  Look for more information on how to pre-order new hoodies and fleece.  Any questions, please contact Jacque Crossin at jcrossin@hotmail.com

Copy That!

The copy room would love to have parent/adult volunteers to help weekly throughout the 2012-2013 school year. Shifts are one hour each.  This is a wonderful way to give back to our teachers and stay plugged in with PHS! Please call Lisa Gresham at 361-816-5092 or email at lwg37@aol.com.  Go Panthers!!

Snacks, Drinks Needed

PHS nurse Kathy Dierker needs donations of snacks and drinks. Any type of breakfast bar or cracker snacks and juice boxes would be a huge help.  Donations can be dropped off in her office anytime.  At the Sept. 7 PTA board meeting, cash donations will be accepted to keep her supplied with whatever she needs during the year.

Mark Your Calendar for Open House on Sept 10

PHS Open House is on Monday, Sept. 10, beginning in the Auditorium and then progressing to your child's classrooms as instructed.  There will be opportunties to purchase spirit items and learn about PHS organizations.  BRING A COPY OF YOUR CHILD's SCHEDULE. The sports/club tables open at 5:30 p.m. with Open House beginning at 6 p.m.

Red Apple Bites

Thanks to those who donated food or volunteered at the back-to-school breakfast for our fabulous teachers and staff. A BIG thank you to Starbucks, Einstein's and Tom Thumb for their donations.
