As a service to our teachers we make their copies for them. So you can sign up to work once or twice a month. Please contact Mary Ellen Nesser at [email protected] for more information and to find out what days are available.

Issue: #2

October 2011

From PTA President Lydia Rapp

Since the first day of school our Paschal students have been hard at work, in the classroom, in the library, on the playing field, in the gym, and in the rehearsal halls. The first six weeks has been recorded, the juniors have taken the PSAT, senior National Merit scholars have been announced, clubs are meeting, every imaginable fundraiser is in high gear, fall sports are in full swing and now we are in the midst of all the Homecoming activities.

Paschal has so much to offer in the way of challenging curriculum in many different disciplines and the option to participate in a variety of extracurricular activities. At times it probably seems overwhelming. There is a pressure to do well in all that is attempted, not to mention being well liked and accepted. Teenagers live in a "real time" environment where things happen instantly and everybody knows about it. Being a teenager has never been easy, but it probably is more difficult today than it has ever been before.

Part of our job as parents is to be there to support our kids. We need to listen to them without criticism and encourage them to confide in us when they are involved in difficult situations. Open communication is key. The Paschal faculty, staff, and counselors are also a vital part of this support system and are available for all students. There are many organizations in our community that can provide assistance to you as parents as you look for ways to help your kids, as well as provide support should a crisis arise with your student. The Mental Health Association of Tarrant County, www.mhatc.org, the Mental Health Association in Texas, www.mhatexas.org, and the National Institute of Mental Health, www.nimh.nih.gov, are just a few organizations among many that offer helpful resources.

As we continue on this great journey of preparing our kids for their next step in life, let us be mindful that it does indeed take a village to raise a child. We are fortunate to have a great village with many wonderful children, teachers and parents. I am privileged to serve this village and work with you to help make your student's potential a reality.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have a concern.

Marchathon

The Paschal Band held its 3rd Annual 10K March-a-thon Sept. 17.  This was a great opportunity to showcase the band to the community. The band marched from Paschal through the neighborhoods and played concerts on Bluebonnet Circle, Foster Park and at Panda Express.  Students canvassed the neighborhood for several weeks prior to the event to pass out sponsor ad sheets with $50 worth of coupons.  The money is used to offset the cost of students' annual $240 band fees.  Thanks to those of you who generously sponsored a Band student!

In September the Band performed for Westcliff Elementary picnic, and on Friday Oct. 7 the Paschal Drumline took time away from their busy fall schedule to lead-off the Lily B. Clayton Marchathon. This is a fun annual event for all involved!

Aledo Marching Contest

The Band participated in the Aledo Marching Contest Oct. 8 and made finals, but the finals were later cancelled due to weather. The Bass Drum line was recognized as the best in the show and the Colorguard achieved recognition for third in the show.
