Issue: #1

September 2011

Welcome from PTA President Lydia Rapp

It is my honor and pleasure to serve as your President of the Paschal PTA for this school year. I am fortunate to work with a wonderful Board that has already been hard at work to support the faculty, staff and administration of Paschal High School in the tradition of excellence and success for all students. You too can be a part of this great collaboration by joining PTA and getting involved.

This past school year PTA gave back to Paschal by providing the $26,500 needed to build the Panther Patio* (opening this week next to the concessions stand by the Field House), granting more than $34,000 in teacher requests, providing over $18,000 in college scholarships and raised the funds needed to provide an alcohol- and drug-free all-night party after graduation for those seniors.

The PTA raises these monies through membership, sale of spirit items, concession sales and our annual dinner and auction.  Please help us to continue giving back to Paschal by becoming a member of PTA, purchasing T-shirts and other spirit items at Rascal's and joining us Feb. 11, 2012, for the annual dinner and auction.

The PTA also works to keep you informed. If you are receiving this newsletter, then you have most likely found our website and subscribed to receive these electronic newsletters or are on other PHS email distribution lists. Please forward the PTA website link, www.paschalhs.org, or this newsletter to those who may not be be on our lists. The website is continually updated and includes a calendar of events, faculty and staff emails, information and announcements, and so much more!

Our next General Membership PTA meeting in late October will include a program sponsored by the Counseling Office and information about college admission and financial aid. Details will be posted on the website as they become available.

Thank you again for this opportunity. I look forward to working with you. Together, with the administration, faculty and staff of Paschal, we can make every student's potential a reality.

Have a great school year!

Lydia Rapp, PHS PTA President

* A big "thank you" to Kirk Jeffries, who has been the driving force to get this project completed. Kudos!!!

Senior News: College Night, yearbook photos

More than 5,000 high school students, along with their parents, are expected to attend Fort Worth ISD's 2011 annual College Night on Monday, Sept. 19, 2011. College Night will be held in the Texas Room at Amon Carter, Jr. Exhibit Hall, 3400 Burnett-Tandy Dr. Mapsco 76A.

The Fort Worth ISD "College Night" is a veritable mall of educational opportunities, with over 250 colleges, universities and institutions from around Texas and across the nation ready to recruit new students.

In addition to meeting with school representatives, students and parents can participate in an informative "Financing a College Education" workshop, a "Scholarships in Tarrant County" work shop and a "College Admissions 101" workshop. The programs will begin at 5:45 p.m. and again at 6:45 p.m. Seating is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. The programs are free and will be available in English and Spanish.  Parking is free at Farrington Field and shuttle service will be provided.

Students should plan to dress appropriately, using the District school dress code as a guide. For more information, contact the FWISD Academic Advisement Department at (817) 814-2575 or www.fwisd.org/guidance.

Senior Yearbook Pictures: Seniors must have their picture taken at  Glamourcraft  by Wed., Dec. 7 to be included in the PHS Yearbook.  There is a $5.41 charge for the yearbook picture, but no obligation to purchase additional photos unless desired.

PHS Band News

The band's 2011 UIL Contest show is called "Chaos." The music is taken from Jim Bonney's three-movement concerto for electric guitar and wind ensemble entitled "Chaos Theory." The Directors are also using music from popular composer John Mackey's "Strange Humors." Soloists this year will include Melina Carranza (flute), Carter Hanthorn (trombone) and Ivan James (guitar). Strange Humors will also feature our percussion section. You should be seeing more of the show each week at half time. The hope is that the music will be very entertaining for the audience!

Another great new addition to the halftime show is our baton twirler, Haylee Castagna, who recently relocated from Lubbock. Haylee is very talented and recently ranked 2nd in the state. Please continue to give Haylee a warm welcome in the stands!

Rascal Spirt Shop is open for business!
The Rascal Spirit Shop is open Wednesdays at lunch and is located just inside the school front entrance.

In addition to your spirit gear favorites, this year the shop is selling yard signs for $20. Also, more T-shirts are being ordered due to popular demand and sweatshirts will come later in October.

For questions, please contact Kim Barber or Jacque Cross for more information and pre-orders at 817-923-3057. For more information about T-shirts, contact Debra Million [email protected]

JROTC news

Also, the JROTC Rifle Team had a cadet who competed in the American Legion's National Championship this summer at the Olympic Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.  Cadet Jessica Haskins finished 6th in the nation at the Championship.  Congratulations!
