Fiddler Saturday, December 6 at 6:30 PM

Join Rabbi Rosenwasser at Arena Stage this Saturday for their production of Fiddler on the Roof, the final installment in this year's Culture & Conversations series. We'll meet at Catwalk Café for a bite and to talk about themes and meanings through a Jewish lens, then head to the performance which begins at 8 PM. ...Adam Prill (Nina) on the death of his mother, Joyce Prill, grandmother of Jack, Alyssa, and Isabella Prill. Funeral services will be at Temple Sinai on Friday, December 5 at 10:30 AM followed by burial at the Garden of Remembrance. The family will be sitting shiva at their home on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday nights from 7-9 PM.

....Peter Breslow (Jessica Goldstein) on the death of his mother, Sari "Shadi" Weiss Breslow, grandmother of Danielle and Eden Breslow. Funeral services were in Massachusetts; the family will be sitting shiva at their home on Sunday, December 7 from 4-6 PM.

Lunch & Learn Thursday, December 18 from 12:30 to 1:30 PM

The Chanukah story and customs are meant to remind us of miracles that happened long ago, but lighting the menorah is much more than a reminder. It is, according to the Talmud, a way to "publicize the miracle" and there are specific rules to guide us. Join Rabbi Roos and Howard Opinsky, US Corporate Practice Leader at Hill + Knowlton, in a discussion of ancient sources and modern insights on this topic. Learn more and RSVP.

Sinai House The United Way and Combined Federal Campaign 2014-2015 workplace giving initiatives are now in full swing and you can donate to Sinai House through both of these initiatives. Our CFC number is 73039 (cfcnca.org) and our United Way number is 9854 (unitedwaynca.org).

 

Sinai House has raised about $2,500 per year through these campaigns thanks to the generosity of Temple Sinai members. Thanks very much for your support!

Introduction to Judaism: 16-Week Course

Begins Thursday, January 8 at Temple Sinai

This class, sponsored by the Union for Reform Judaism, gives a broad overview of Judaism and is designed for Jews and others who are seeking a greater understanding of Jewish principles and practice. It explores Jewish holidays and life-cycle ceremonies, prayer and worship, Jewish history, Jewish theology, Israel, the Holocaust, and how to make a Jewish home. Learn more and register

Food Drive Benefiting Friendship Place

In the TS Lobby through December 31

For their b'nai mitzvah project, Maddie and Noah Gold are collecting donations in the TS lobby this month for Friendship Place, an organization that provides food, shelter, and help to DC's homeless population. Requested items include canned goods, cereal, and trail mix. Pop-top canned goods that can be eaten on the go are preferred.
