Join the Board of Directors!

The next MAWS Conference and Annual Meeting is coming up on November 21st. A few members of our current Board of Directors will not be running for re-election, and we'd like to invite you to consider bringing all of your talents to furthering our mission to promote the health and well-being of women and families in Washington State through the profession of midwifery.

Board members take an active role in the work of MAWS. The Board typically meets once per month. Most meetings are in the Seattle area, though members can call in to meetings--so it is possible to join from a distance. Learn more about Board participation here and learn more about your role as a Board member here. The Board is actively recruiting a Treasurer. You can read more about this position here.

If you're interested in getting on this fall's ballot, please email your name and bio (or that of a colleague, with their permission). Nominations must be received by Friday, October 3, 2014.

Join a committee!

Committee involvement is WELCOME without election to the Board. Please review the list of current committees and contact us if you are interested in getting involved!

Call for Steering Committee Members to help MAWS Address Healthcare Disparities and Become an Anti-racism Organization

The importance of eliminating healthcare disparities and racism cannot be understated.  MAWS recognizes the importance of these monumental tasks because "we believe that as we progress towards the full realization of this vision, that the midwifery profession as a whole, its individual professional members, and midwifery consumers will all be brought to an increased level of quality, access, collaboration, and unity that is our goal as a community to achieve."  In response, the Anti-Racism Committee (ARC) was formed, devoted to addressing racism in healthcare and education towards different approaches as to how midwives and other health care professionals can lessen these disparities.

If you would like to be a part of helping MAWS address healthcare disparities and become an anti-racism organization, contact Kristin kristineffland@gmail.com about joining our steering committee today! There is no prior committee experience necessary and commitment currently involves a monthly phone call. Now is an exciting time to get involved!
