NEURODEVELOPMENTAL PERSPECTIVES ON AUTISM AND ASPERGER'S SYNDROME

Robert J. Doman Jr.

Lauren caught a fish!

To be published in an upcoming fall issue of Autism Health and Wellness magazine:

Understanding and remediating neurodevelopmental issues of those within the autism spectrum is critical if we are going to provide these individuals with an opportunity to overcome their debilitating developmental issues and to function within "typical" or "normal" limits. The underlying neurodevelopmental issues associated with autism are often not addressed. And when they are addressed, it is often only in part or with inadequate or inappropriate interventions.  A thorough understanding of all of the related pieces is necessary if a comprehensive and effective strategy is to be created and implemented.

THE IMPORTANCE OF WALKING
BY MICHAEL JEN

WalkingBoth serious athletes and fitness enthusiasts seem always to be on the lookout for the newest and most "advanced" forms of exercise or piece of equipment to enhance performance, rehabilitation, or general health. However most people tend to have forgotten the extreme importance of the simplest form of exercise--walking.

Our bodies were designed by nature to stand upright and walk on two legs. With the advancement of technology, automobiles have replaced walking. Most people would rather drive 2 minutes to get to a destination than walk. Physical labor is required by fewer occupations, especially with advancement of computers. Machines are replacing more physical household chores, and leisure-time activities that require no physical exertion or movement are becoming more popular. Studies have shown that the average American adult only walks between 3,000 - 5,000 steps a day. A greater number of steps easily can be taken in a 30-minute walk, yet that is as much as most people walk throughout an entire day.

SLOVAKIA

By Sarah

In Slovakia there are mountains, valleys, fields, caves, towns, castles, and so much more! Their mountains are the High Tatras. The High Tatras are wonderful mountains surrounded by lakes, towns, and valleys. The mountains have lots of caves some of which are open to the public. They also have caves in other places like Slovak Paradise.

One of my favorite Caves is the Ice cave. It is very lovely but be sure to bring a jacket. NOTE: even in the summer.

Sarah in SlovakiaSlovak Paradise is also a great hiking place with ladders and 20 rushing rivers also surrounded by the towns and valleys. The town has a  lovely place in the valley where horses roam about in the valley and people scurry in the towns. The towns are very nice with old libraries, churches, parks, and wonderful slovak restaurants. Be sure that if you go, you try the sweet shops called Cukraren. I love living in Slovakia it a great experience. I hope some day you can come and see these things.
