HHLT Offers Family-Friendly Hike, Sun, June 7
Hudson Highlands Land Trust River of Words educator Kali Bird is leading an HHLT Take-a-Hike! event, Nature Detectives at Mystery Point, Sunday, June 7, at 10:00am.
 
Children will be delighted to play Nature Hunt Bingo as they tramp through Manitou Point Preserve on this 2 1/2-hour hike. The trail's changing terrain and inclines will make the outing one of discovery and a fun family adventure.

Nature Museum Presents Owl Wildlife Workshop at Hubbard Lodge, Sun, June 7

The Hudson Highlands Nature Museum, in partnership with HHLT, is bringing its expertise to the Hudson River's east side this Sunday, June 7, at 2:00pm. Join Environmental Educator Carl Heitmuller to learn about these nocturnal raptors and their fascinating natural history--and meet a live owl.

 

This program is for adults with or without children, ages five and up. Admission is $5 per adult, $3 per child for museum members ($7 and $5 for non-members). Fees help support the care for the museum's animals at the Wildlife Education Center in Cornwall.

The Hudson Valley Regional Council and the Hudson River Watershed Alliance, with funding from the NYS Department of Conservation's Hudson River Estuary Program, invite you to attend an educational workshop, Introduction to Water Policy and Laws in New York: Tools & Perspectives for the Protection of Streams, Water Quality and In-Stream Flow, on Monday, June 8, at the Black Rock Forest Science and Educaton Center in Cornwall.

Walk with Snapping Turtles, Sat, June 13

Bring your family and your camera to Boscobel's Belvedere on Saturday, June 13 for an up-close look at the snapping turtles who climb up from Constitution Marsh every spring to lay their eggs.

 

After an informative and engaging display by Constitution Marsh Audubon Center & Sanctuary staff, guests are invited on a self-guided search of the grounds to look for egg-laying females.

 

The event is from 7:30am-9:00am, fee is $12. Children under 6 are free. Complimentary donuts, coffee and juice included. Visit Boscobel's website for details and to register.

Saunders barn Enjoy Evening of Music at Saunders Farm Barn Dance, Sat, June 13

Slip on your dancing shoes and head over to the Saunders Farm Barn Dance (near the intersection of Old Albany Post Road and South Highland Road in Garrison) on Saturday, June 13. Pot luck dinner starts at 7:00pm and children's dancing at 7:30pm. Square Dancing begins at 8:00pm, with music provided by Still, the Homegrown Band. Bob Livingston will be calling. The event is free.

Beacon Sloop Club Strawberry Festival Set for Sun, June 14

Start your summer with delicious, sweet strawberries at the Beacon Sloop Club's Strawberry Festival. The event will be held at the Pete & Toshi Seeger Riverfront Park in Beacon on Sunday, June 7, from noon to 5:00pm. 

 

Enjoy live music and children's activities in addition to freshly made strawberry shortcakes, strawberry smoothies and chocolate-dipped strawberries.

Friends of Mt. Beacon Six Offer Path through History Hike, June 20

On November 11, 1945, six Navy veterans lost their lives when their plane crashed on Mt. Beacon. Plans are currently underway to preserve the site and commemorate the 70th anniversary of the crash this fall. 
 

Join the Friends of Mt. Beacon Six on June 20 at 10:00am in the parking lot at the intersection of Sunnyside Road and Fairview Road in Beacon to hike to the crash site and learn more about the history of the area. The hike is four hours.

"Constellation" Launches June 28

Come down to the river at a vantage point near Bannerman's Island on Sunday, June 28, between 7:30pm-8:30pm to celebrate the launch of Melissa McGill's public artwork, Constellation.

 
As the sun sets on the Hudson Highlands, starry lights will emerge over Bannerman's castle ruin - one by one with the stars of the night sky - to connect past and present through a large-scale sculptural light-based public art project.
