Banquet Planned to Celebrate All Things Made in Philipstown
Hudson Highlands Land Trust is pleased to be a nonprofit co-host of the Made-in-Philipstown Banquet scheduled for Sat., Sept. 5, 2015 from 4:00-8:00pm on the banks of the Hudson River at Garrison's Landing.

Organizers envision a 300 foot-long table topped with plates, napkins and food from Philipstown that will seat up to 400 people. The dinner is free for Philipstown residents, reservations required and taken on a first-come, first-served basis (100 seats are being held for residents' guests).

Nonprofit co-hosts include Boscobel House and Gardens, Cold Spring Area Chamber of Commerce, Cold Spring Lions Club, Constitution Marsh, Desmond Fish Library, Farm to School Program, Garrison Art Center, Garrison's Landing Association, Glynwood, Hudson Highlands Land Trust, Hudson Valley Seed, Manitoga: Russel Wright Design Center, Philipstown Garden Club and Philipstown.info/The Paper. Business sponsors include Antipodean Books, Maps & Prints, Buster Levi Gallery, Eleanor's Best, Fresh Company, Gallery 66, Ivy League Plantscapes, Liz Bisbee Rauch, River Restaurant, and Skybaby Yoga.

Kids Enjoy Outdoor Fun in Nature-Centered Summer Camps

The Hudson Highlands Nature Museum offers a variety of summer nature camps for children aged 4 through 16 at its Outdoor Discovery Center in Cornwall, NY. Former Nature Campers aged 15-18 are invited back to share their experiences as volunteer counselors-in-training. Campers have fun learning about forest, field and pond critters, blazing new trails, playing games and participating in hands-on experiments.

Prepaid registration is required. Visit the museum website for more information, and to register online.

Black Rock Forest's Summer Science Camp gives children an understanding of nature through scientific observation and investigation, working directly with scientists and artists. Classes are geared for middle-school and high-school students, and developed and taught by subject experts to provide an opportunity for campers to explore college and career possibilities in the natural sciences while having fun.

Enjoy Spring's Exuberant Return this May
Although the calendar marks the start of spring in March, the season doesn't really take hold in the Hudson Valley until May. Now we see new leaves on deciduous trees, wildflowers coloring the fields and, to the misery of allergy sufferers, pollen coating all surfaces. The Taconic Outdoor Education Center in Cold Spring commemorates the season on Sunday, May 17, from 9:00am - 2:00pm with its Mountain Laurel Outdoor Rec Fest. Unplug your family and learn about kayaks, orienteering, outdoor skills, adventure challenges, birding and nature. Visit the website or call 845/265-3773 for more information. The event is free, donations gratefully accepted.

The Hudson Highlands Land Trust is a community-based, accredited, non-profit land conservation organization dedicated to the protection of the natural resources, rural character and scenic beauty of the Hudson Highlands.
