HHLT Presents Free Community Forum on Food Sustainability, Sun, Apr 19
Attend the Hudson Highlands Land Trust's free community forum on Sunday, April 19, at the Highlands Country Club, Route 9D, in Garrison to learn tips from experts on shopping for food, planning menus and cooking meals more sustainably. Entitled, Food For Thought: Shopping, Cooking and Eating Sustainably,  the event is scheduled from 11:00am to 3:00pm and will feature a morning panel and two afternoon breakout sessions.

The panelists will discuss the ways in which mainstream food production damages the environment and offer choices that consumers can make to create affordable, healthy meals that are good for household budgets and the environment. After lunch, break-out sessions will allow attendees to interact and learn about the morning topics in greater detail.

Participants will receive a complimentary lunch and have the opportunity to browse informational tables during breaks.

The forum is open to the public and free-of-charge, but advance registration is required as space is limited. Walk-ins will be accepted only on a space-available basis the day of the event. Email info@hhlt.org for more information or to make a reservation.

Beacon Sloop Club Holds Talk on Crude Oil Transport, Thurs, Apr 9

Riverkeeper's Jeremy Cherson will discuss the risks posed by crude oil transport in the Hudson Valley on Thursday, April 9, at 7:00pm at the Beacon Sloop Club (2 Flynn Dr., Beacon).

The growth of domestic oil production has spurred the industry to make the Hudson Valley into an international conduit for crude oil. Up to five billion gallons is being transported through the Hudson Valley annually by train, barge and ship. Public reaction has prompted New York State to increase inspections. Learn what you can do to encourage further action to ensure the safety of our citizens and environment.
