Hello orchid lovers~
There is a great unfolding happening in our greenhouse RIGHT NOW. We have seven Paphiopedilum sanderianums uncurling their beautiful petals at the same time. For us, this is unprecedented. Sadly, we won't ship them in bloom, but there may be others that will spike soon or we can ship post-bloom...
In August, we are again promoting stock plant divisions. This time we have added a large number Cattleya hybrids, intergenerics, and species as well as various other intergeneric hybrid divisions. Click here to read more
Chuck is back this month with "our story." It traces the history of the business starting as a hobby like so many others. It is a wonderful read! The endurance of the business is a testament to the passion that orchids stir in the hearts of people like our dear Chuck.
In addition to the new divisions, we have a number of new offerings. Just when I think we have posted most of our stock I find more!
There is a new menu item on our website to peruse: In-Spike/Budded plants!! This page will be updated regularly so check it often!
We have added Oeceoclades maculata to the Bare Root Special and moved on to the next batch of C. skinneri and C. purpurata. Growth on these two has really taken off!
And now an offer for our local folks! We are participating in a VIP Text Club whereby you will exclusive offers, updates, and information relating to OGC&N and Franz Landscaping (owned by Skylar Franz, son of Kent). We will provide a variety of information such as the arrival of spring bedding plants, in-house orchid sales, and educational advice regarding your home landscaping. Orchids According to Chuck
A Doctor's Hobby Shapes a Life with Orchids
|
|
It started in the spring of 1936, when a prominent doctor living in Middleton, Wisconsin asked a pair of teenage boys from a farm some miles away to lend a helping hand around his estate. These two boys happened to be my father, Walter Acker, and his younger brother Paul, who were both living and working on my grandfather's farm. The doctor needed help with chores consisting of mowing grass, painting, changing storm windows and trimming trees. But the most exciting chore of all was being able to work in and around the doctor's small greenhouse, which was attached to his home. In this greenhouse was a small collection of orchids, a type of plant the boys had never seen.
