Excitement for 2013!
Like many in our industry, SSC is beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel as our country, state and city slowly emerge from the economic challenges faced in the last several years. We are optimistic to see hope for the year ahead with more exciting projects on the horizon and the ability to add to our team. Our field crews are being staffed with qualified candidates so that we are equipped to meet the volume of work we see as possible in the coming months.
In addition to our construction crews getting stronger with new hires, our office staff is also growing. We are pleased to welcome two new members to our staff, Debra Marion as Contracts Administrator and Rita Schrank in Accounting. Both ladies come to SSC with extensive construction backgrounds and we are very pleased with the knowledge and experience that they have brought to our team, and trust that our customers and vendors will find them as wonderful to work with as we do.
Welcome New Staff!

SSC Global: SSC Looks to Spread Its Reach Nationally and Abroad
SSC has long been viewed as Arizona's leading
trenchless technology specialist. Over the past decade, as the company has grown and daily operations have been taken over by the next generation of ownership, opportunities have been presented for the team at SSC to share their knowledge and put their skills to work across the US and internationally. Abe Veidmark, third generation owner and vice president at SSC, has been a part of several of these ventures - he was a member of the team that travelled to the US Virgin Islands in 2007 to complete four bores at the Hovensa refinery, as well as performing multiple pipeline bores in West Virginia in 2009, consulting on a pipe ram in Pennsylvania earlier this year, and running a tunnel job on Cannon AFB in Clovis, NM this spring.
While SSC has known for years that offering its services outside the borders of Arizona would provide the market it needed to continue to grow, the business model of providing excellent service and a top quality finished product proved challenging to uphold when projects were too far from home. The owners knew that a leader, someone at the top with not only the knowledge, but the authority to make decisions to ensure a successful project, would need to be the one to take SSC's services outside of Arizona. Abe, as an owner with decision making ability, and now with over a decade of trenchless experience and knowledge, is the perfect person to lead this new venture. Not only does he possess these critical characteristics, but Abe is an adventurer who loves to travel, see new places and meet new people. His willingness and desire to lead SSC Global is the perfect next step for both he and the company.
In 2013 SSC management will begin to study markets across the country and identify key areas and projects that would be the wisest places to start branching out to. With 43 years of relationships to build on and reach out to, the company is excited for the opportunity to grow its customer base as well to partner with existing customers who are already working in other states. International projects will be sought strategically in global areas that offer safe working environment for the crews as well as English language to allow for effective communication. If you have a project near or far that could benefit from this expanded geographic reach, call SSC today!

Arizona is Still Home!
While SSC is excited to service new areas through SSC Global, Arizona will always be our home base. SSC is proud to be a Phoenix based family owned small business since its inception in 1969 and Arizona will continue to be its headquarters and main revenue center. Part of the puzzle of being able to release Abe to run SSC Global was to care for the daily operations that he has handled for the company. Thanks to additions to the SSC team, the important job of overseeing the mechanic shop and ensuring that all of the vehicles and equipment are in top working condition has now been assigned, allowing Abe the ability to travel with SSC Global.
Steve Walker has been with SSC full time for nearly two years, and part time before that. Steve came to SSC with nearly 25 years of equipment operating experience and previously running his own excavating company. With his two years now at SSC to gain knowledge of the company's work, operations and equipment, Steve is now equipped with the ability to take on the role of Shop Manager. In this role, Steve can ensure that the daily operations of SSC, both local and global, will be successful with safe and functional equipment and vehicles.
Arvid Veidmark continues to be SSC's lead estimator and project manager. In Abe's current role he works alongside Arvid to schedule, plan and run the projects. As Abe moves into his role of leading SSC Global, the company is well equipped with its Vacuum Division Manager, Curtis Zwar, alongside with Derek Krackenberger, long time Auger Division Foreman, and Steve Walker in his dual role of Auger Division Foreman and Shop Manager, to work with Arvid and successfully run all of SSC's work.
Steve Derek
Management has long recognized that having a strong team in place is the critical first step to allow for growth, and is confident that with the current team at SSC, the company is well positioned for growth and success. |
