Cross it Off Your List
You may or may not have started your Christmas list yet, but in just a little over 2 months, Christmas is here.  In about 6 weeks, you should be mailing out your Christmas cards.  Boy that sneaks up (and it is the same time every year lol).

We are here to help you with your Christmas Cards and Gift Ideas with a few different events at the store. Take a Family Portrait, and use it on your Photo Greeting Cards and then create Photo Gifts such as Canvas prints, Metal Prints, Mugs, Blankets etc with your Portrait.  They won't get two of it!

First, we have the Family Photo Fundraiser happening at many of the local elementary schools.  Check with your school PAC to see if your school is on the list (and if it isn't, there is still time for them to be added.  Just contact us.) This works if you have a friend or neighbour at one of the schools too.  You can still book and they will receive the credit. Portrait sittings for this event start this Saturday Oct 18th and run in October, November and December.

 
 

Second, we have our Second Annual Christmas Portrait Event. This year we are bringing the outdoors inside, and there is 100% chance of snow!!  So fun :). This event was a huge hit last year, and so many of you loved that you could order your cards and prints right after the sitting...one more thing crossed off the list and out of the "To Do Pile". The iPhoneography Workshop was a huge hit.

Michael L summed up the class' feelings "I really enjoyed the iPhoneography workshop, Ashlee did a great job of introducing us to this great range of ideas, from the basics of composition (including when to consider breaking the rules :-), some of the mechanical aspects of using an iPhone as a camera, to the presentation of apps, organization of photos, printing and more -- it was such a thorough introduction, i feel it gave me a really solid good leg-up to pursue things on my own. Ashlee did a great job of introducing us to a lot of very interesting and relevant material, and she did it in a very organized, clear, and accessible way -- kudos to her, and to you all for putting it on."

Got any old cameras you don't need? Atira is looking for donations of old  cameras, camera phones, or disposable camers to use for a new photography-based support group. You can bring them to Photo Express Foto Source and we will get them delivered for this good cause. Or you can drop them off to Atira Women's Resource Society at their head office at 101 E. Cordova St., Vancouver. 

The Stopping the Violence Program at Atira Women's Resource Society is launching its very first photography-based support group, the Photovoice Project. Through this project, women will be able to explore ideas of the self, past memories and hopes for the future through the lens of a camera. Combined with group discussions, the photographs will provide a stepping stone for mutual support, healing and empowerment.
