Photo Tip...Shooting in Shutter Priority Mode

Shutter priority mode, which is often labeled as Tv or S on your digital camera's dial, is often chosen when the photographer wants to control or highlight movement in an image. Whether you want to stop action or highlight motion, shutter priority mode is an excellent choice for highlighting aspects of action. You may wish to bracket your images as this strategy may best produce at least one image conveying the effect you had hoped to create.

Select a fast shutter speed if your goal is to stop action; by contrast, a slower shutter speed will yield an image in motion. As with any technique, going outside to practice and play is pivotal to your success. Don't get discouraged if you don't achieve the results you had hoped for on your first outing. You'll soon get the feel for different movement speeds, lighting conditions and other variables. Practice makes picture perfect, so take some time to get familiar with your shutter priority mode.
