Congratulations to Doral Academy Charter Middle School and Mater Performing Arts & Entertainment Academy for being the recipients of the National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2015. The National Blue Ribbon Schools is based on the school's overall academic excellence but also recognizes the students accomplishments, their hard work and dedication to better themselves for their future goals. Doral Academy Charter Middle School and Mater Performing Arts & Entertainment Academy will be honored at a recognition ceremony in Washington, D.C. in November . Commissioner Diaz calls for feasibility study on roadway conversions
The Miami-Dade County Commission approved a resolution sponsored by Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz to explore converting certain two-way roadways into one-way streets either permanently or at certain times of the day to alleviate traffic congestion. A feasibility study will be prepared within the next 180 days to identify potential roadways to be converted following coordination with municipalities within whose jurisdictions the roadways lie. The study also will provide a cost estimate and indicate potential funding sources.

Commissioner Diaz supports "Go the Extra Yard for those with Autism" campaign

Commissioner Diaz joined Joseph "Pepe" Badia from Badia Spices and Dan Marino from The Dan Marino Foundation to kick-off "Go the Extra Yard for those with Autism" event. Badia Spices will donate 5% of the proceeds to The Dan Marino Foundation when purchasing a bottle of Badia Extra Virgin Olive Oil until December 31. The proceeds will benefit the Dan Marino Foundation and Marino Campus, a post-secondary educational opportunity for young adults with autism and developmental disabilities, ages 18-28. Commissioner Diaz hosts free movie nights in District 12

Get ready for free movie nights at North Trail Park, starting Friday, October 23 with movie ParaNorman. Movie will start at 7pm. Free popcorn will be provided but be sure to bring chairs and blankets. |
NW 74th St from NW 87th Avenue to SR-826There will be a roadway improvement project along NW 74th Street from NW 87th Avenue to SR-826 consisting of widening and reconstruction of the existing road from a five-lane roadway to a six-lane divided roadway with turn lanes. The project will also have bike lanes, raised medians, sidwalk, curb and gutter, continous storm drainage system, pavement markings and signage, traffic signalization, roadway lighting, landscaping and irrigation. Project is expected to be completed in January 2017.

Miami-Dade Library expands New hours of Operation
|
The Miami-Dade Public Library System announced that it will move to an expanded service schedule effective Thursday, October 1, 2015. As part of the FY 2015-16 Adopted Budget, ten library branches that are currently on a 5-day schedule will be increased to a 6-day schedule. The locations of these ten branches are as follows:
- California Club Branch Library - Opening Soon
- Coral Reef Branch Library
- Country Walk Branch Library
- Golden Glades Branch Library
- Hispanic Branch Library
- Homestead Branch Library
- International Mall Branch Library
- Kendall Branch Library
- Little River Branch Library
- Pinecrest Branch Library
MDPLS will also be adjusting the hours of operation at the Main Library and the Doral Branch Library to provide evening hours for our patrons. The Main Library will now be open from 12 - 8 p.m. on Thursday evenings, and, the Doral Branch Library will be open from 12 - 8 p.m. on Monday evenings. Free Zumba classes at North Trail Park
|
The Miami-Dade County Parks, as part of their health and fitness initiative, will be offering free "Zumba Gold" classes to residents age 55 and older at North Trail Park Community Center, 780 NW 127th Avenue. "Zumba Gold" mingles fun and energetic music with lower impact movements to improve balance, flexibility, cardiovascular health and muscle conditioning. On November 30, 2009, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) District Six in partnership with the Miami-Dade Expressway Authority (MDX) began a reconstruction project of the State Road (S.R.) 826 (Palmetto Expressway) and S.R. 836 (Dolphin Expressway) Interchange. Now that construction has begun, there will be many upcoming lane and ramp closures on the Dolphin Expressway.
