Visions Issue 2 is On The Way - Catch Issue 1 If You Missed It
Take a look at Visions Issue 1 feature article "When Worlds Collide" to learn new ways to brand your product through industrial and interaction design.

Author Chris Murray explains, "We have four generations colliding in our marketplace, and they are quite different. Traditional segmentation models don't necessarily work as cleanly for today's brands as they did for previous generations. Today, customers want functional features, benefits and product quality as a given."

June Book Review
Book Review: 'Design Thinking'
Teresa Jurgens-Kowal, PhD, NPDP
"Design Thinking," edited by Michael G. Luchs, K. Scott Swan, and Abbie Griffin. Wiley:  Hoboken, NJ (2016).  411 + xvii pages. US$55.
In product development, design thinking is an emerging trend to enhance the customer experience with products.  It increases engagement of the entire product development team with the end-user throughout the development effort.  As a part of the Product Development and Management Association's (PDMA) series on new product development essentials, PDMA has recently released a reference book on this concept.
"Design Thinking" is a very dense book with lots of information and is not created for a quick read from cover to cover.  Readers will find the book useful as a reference tool and should feel welcome to jump to the applicable section or chapter that addresses their current challenges.

Driving Innovation by Addressing Customer Needs

More than 40 percent of the companies that were at the top of the Fortune 500 list in 2000 were no longer there in 2010 (Source: Brian Solis' Future of Business), illustrating how important innovation is in fuelling continuous growth and business sustenance in this ever-evolving, dynamic market.
In the 2012 American Express Global Customer Service Barometer, more than 70 percent of those surveyed believed that small businesses understand customers better than large companies and know their service/product better than large companies. Respondents also noted that smaller companies provide a more personal customer service experience than larger companies and are more concerned about customer needs.
