The Innovator's Method
By Nathan Furr and Jeff Dyer. Harvard Business Review Press: Boston, MA (2015). 268 pages. US$30.00 (hard cover).
Lean methods are spreading well beyond the manufacturing floor. Debottlenecking business processes, like innovation, is an emerging trend along with design thinking and agile software development. Nathan Furr and Jeff Dyer apply the philosophy of lean development to start-ups in their new book, "The Innovator's Method". Conventional wisdom dictates that a new entrepreneurial venture should start with writing a business plan. Of course, business plans project sales and revenues into the future. What follows is a rigorous process of constructing the new product or service and marketing it as designed in the business plan

PDMA New York/New Jersey Chapter: The Best Opportunities Are Hidden in Plain Sight:
An Exploration of 'Edge Innovation'
Tuesday, April 19, 2016, 6:00-8:00 p.m. EST
299 Broadway, New York, NY
Alan Lewis and Dan McKone, authors of Edge Strategy: A New Mindset for Profitable Growth (Harvard Business Review Press, 2016) will give their fresh insights on "edge innovation" and what you can do in your company to stimulate it.
Amid the relentless pressure for growth, many companies feel forced to make big and risky bets on new ventures and approaches to innovation. After studying hundreds of companies in dozens of industries, Lewis and McKone have discovered that the surest path to growth comes neither from new initiatives nor from reinvestment in a company's core business.
In this presentation, they will discuss how to innovate effectively and incrementally by taking advantage of products, customers and assets on the edge, or periphery, of a company's current operations.
