Change and Experience Create Valuable Employees
Working at a company for 10 to 20 years may have been the norm in the past, but increasing competition is forcing companies to change and adapt quickly, and in that environment, individuals with broad skills and experience are highly valued. Having worked in California's Silicon Valley for 30 years, this was very true, as the only constant is change!
Start-ups came and went and people changed jobs whenever they got bored or were laid off. I am going to tell you why change is good. Buckminister Fuller, the inventor of the Geodesic dome and lots of other cool stuff said, "You can never learn less, you can only learn more." The following are some examples of lessons learned from 40 years of experience at more than 20 jobs, both large and small.

Journal of Product Innovation Management (JPIM)
The November 2015 issue of JPIM (Volume 2, Issue 36) is now available! Access it online today.

If you have a member or non-member login to the PDMA website, you may access either full articles or abstracts from the new issue today.

What can I find in the November issue? (From "In This Issue" by Editor Gloria Barczak)

This issue begins with two articles from the 2014 Innovation & Product Development Management Conference (IPDMC) in Limerick, Ireland. Six papers were initially invited from the conference, and these two articles made it through the review process.
  • The first article by Schweitzer, Rau, Gassmann, and van den Hende identifies technologically reflective individuals as those who think about the societal impact of an innovation.
  • In the second article, Backmann, Hoegl, and Cordery apply the construct of absorptive capacity at the team level. Consequently, they develop a measure for team-level absorptive capacity, and investigate several potential influencing factors, as well as examine its relationship to product innovativeness.
  • Among the other eight articles, you will find articles focusing on a number of topics including passive innovation resistance, innovation road mapping, design thinking, R&D professionals' individual performance, R&D alliances/interfirm collaboration, and package graphic design.
To access the November 2015 issue of JPIM, members may login and access JPIM articles here. Non-members may access abstracts.

Check out the video above: Gloria Barczak, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Product Innovation Management visited Aston Business School to talk to faculty, including PhD students and early career researchers on how to craft articles for publication, and emerging research priorities.
