Receive a Benchmark Study on Radical Innovation and Skunk Works

Winner of the 2013 PDMA Dissertation Proposal Competition, Nicole Lasky, is conducting an exciting study on radical innovation and skunk works, with the objective to dispel the myths of innovation and demonstrate a radically different process to that of incremental innovation. This is part of a PhD at the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia.

We are seeking principal radical innovators (people who are central to the process of innovation) and managers of radical innovation projects. Radical means new to the world of products, as well as new to the firm. It often creates a dramatic change that transforms existing markets or industries, or creates new ones. In return, you will obtain a report on the benchmark for the radical innovation process and skunk works at the end of the study. This will provide practical advice to managers on how to organize radical innovation projects for the highest potential of success.

Q3 2013 Visions Magazine Sneak Peek

The Q3 issue of Visions will hit email inboxes soon. The issue's cover story features this year's PDMA Outstanding Corporate Innovator finalists:

"It has been repeatedly shown that one of the most effective techniques for organizations facing challenges in improving their innovation performance is to learn from proven successful practitioner companies. This type of learning opportunity is rare, but attendees at PIM13 will be fortunate to take advantage of such an opportunity when the 2013 OCI winners present the best and next innovation practices that have contributed to their success. This is a not-to-be-missed session at PIM 13. Although our past 47 OCI winners represent significant diversity in industry and size, the common bond is a commitment to innovation as a means to achieve corporate success."

PDMA Book Review

The Price of Global Health: Drug Pricing Strategies to Balance Patient Access and the Funding of Innovation

This book is not a trivial accounting and light conversation targeted at average consumers wanting to understand why their drugs cost so much and where/how to get them “cheaply,” though some may gain comprehension of the issue. Rather, it is a deep discussion and interpretation of forces driving our global health care markets backed by Schoonveld’s years of practice and personal investment within this domain.

I must admit to a nervous anxiety throughout this read as I learned that those involved in health care (whether as caregivers, payers or providers) are not only under the pressure of decision making for those involved but also with new drug development and implementation, pricing, market access controls and health economics. To that end, the book offers a forthright discussion on sensitive moral and ethical controversies surrounding health care concerns and a direct, sometimes blunt, accounting of realities.
