It is written in accordance with the basic elements of the Scrum process by Roman Pichler, a well-known Agile practitioner and a certified Scrum trainer.
Chapter 1, Understanding the Product Owner Role, explores the role of the product owner when implementing projects with Scrum, explaining its definition and the owner’s authority and responsibility. The comparison is made between the product owner and a traditional product manager or project manager.
What are the desirable characteristics of a product owner? Choosing the right one is crucial to the project success. In this chapter, 10 characteristics are found to be essential, including visionary, leader, team player, communication, negotiator, empowered, committed, available and qualified.

PDMA’s Annual Research Forum is the premier conference for discourse on new product development (NPD) and innovation research. It is an important forum for intellectual exchange and state-of-the-art research on all aspects of NPD innovation.
2013 Annual Research Forum’s co-chairs invite manuscripts, extended abstracts, working papers/results for poster sessions or special session proposals that explore new theoretical perspectives, empirical findings or strategies for success in NPD innovation management.

PDMA Call for 2013 Dissertation Proposal Competition in New Product Development and Innovation Management

PDMA recently announced the call for its 2013 Doctoral Dissertation Proposal Competition. Applicants may propose research on any aspect of the development, commercialization, or management of new products/services or innovation. Dissertation proposals that cross functional lines, involve multiple research disciplines or make substantial advancement to our knowledge in the field are particularly encouraged. Learn more.

The editors are now seeking proposals for chapters to be included in this new compilation (targeted launch: fall 2014). This publication is geared toward both new and experienced product development and innovation professionals seeking to expand their Open Innovation (OI) thinking and tools.
