City of Fremont Human Services Department Launches e-Newsletter!

Welcome to the City of Fremont Human Service Department's very first e-mail newsletter! We want to share bi-monthly highlights about programs, services and upcoming events being offered through the Department's many programs as well as the Human Relations and Senior Commissions. We also hope to feature some of our accomplishments, and successes stories, introduce you to our staff, as well as recognize outstanding community volunteers.

 

We hope you will enjoy reading about our services and participate in our upcoming events and workshops, and share the information with family and friends. It is our way of staying connected!

Program a Huge Success
Happy recipient of a holiday gift!

The 2012 Holiday Giving Program was a big success! The Program raised over $60,000 in cash, household items (toys, clothes, and food), and gift card donations. This allowed us to serve over 60 families (275 individuals, 175 seniors, and 36 seniors' pet companions).  All the recipients were astonished and overjoyed by the community's outpour of kindness and concern for others. Read more...

FRC Receives Distinguished Service Award!

On January 25, 2013, the FRC received the Distinguished Community Service Award from the Alameda County Bar Association for being a place where families receive quality 
services; for staff that provides services and advocates for a healthy community; and for providing free legal services to low income Tri-City residents. 

FRC Hosts Annual Citizenship Day

   

On April 27th, 2013, the International Institute of the Bay Area (IIBA), in partnership with the FRC and the East Bay Naturalization Collaborative, will hold our second annual Citizenship Day.  It's a day of workshops and assistance in filling out the naturalization application.  

 

We're also recruiting for volunteers for this event.  If you're over 18, fluent in written and spoken English and want to help the community, we need volunteers to help with eligibility screening, form filling, language translation and expert immigration attorneys.  Training is provided.  If interested, please email Hangama at [email protected]. Read more...

Senior Clipper Cards

Clipper is an all-in-one transit card that keeps track of multiple transit passes, ride books or tickets, and any cash value that you load onto it, while applying all applicable fares, discounts and transfer rules.  The Senior Clipper Card will automatically calculate the discounted cash fare, monthly pass fare or transfer fare each time you use Clipper on transit. Read more...

The Fremont Human Relations Commission (HRC)  is accepting nominations of individuals and organizations in our community that have made outstanding contributions for the common good in the pursuit of equality, justice, human services and human rights for all citizens. If you know of an individual, organization or business that you would like to see recognized for outstanding community service, especially an "unsung hero" which  may  not have  previously received formal acknowledgement or recognition let the HRC know. Check out the HRC Award Form to obtain a nomination form and to view nomination categories. Nominations will be accepted until June 28, 2013. Winners will be acknowledged by the Fremont City Council and featured in the Tri-City Voice.  Read more...

 

 
Teen Donates $1,000 to the Fremont Senior Center

Rohan Chandra, 17, of Fremont recently won a nation 1st place grant from Kids Who Give to expand his Earthquake Preparedness for Seniors (EPS) project. Rohan created 250 earthquake kits and 1,000 multi-lingual safety guides in 5 languages for homebound older adults residing in the Tri-City area. He recently donated $1,000 of his grant award to the Fremont Senior Center. Thank you Rohan!
