                                                                                                New Year  New Thinking

Dear Community and Friends

Happy New Year!

Congratulation! We have successfully entered the new year of 2013. As you are reading at this newsletter, that means we all survive the end of the world of the Mayan calendar on December 21st, 2012. There were many who take the message seriously and while some take it as a warming sign of impermanence. According to the CBS News, some schools in Michigan were closed because they believed violence might strike. People in France believed that a hidden spaceship in the Pyrenees was waiting to take them away. Some was disappointed that the world did not end and they have to continue paying taxes.

However, preparing one's end of life care and dying process, indeed is everyone's responsibility and is an important task to achieve while we are still healthy. In 2013, Verde Valley Community Hospice will continue to advocate end- of- life education and provide free educational workshops and our Community Liaison, Chyna Wu, M.A is teaching a Death, Dying and Bereavement class at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes from January 2013 to March 2013. For more information, you can reach Chyna Wu at: 928-592-2992 or email: cwu@vvchospice.com

For class information at OLLI, please call: Clarkdale Campus: 928-649-5550 and Sedona Campus: 928-649-4275

We wish you all a healthy, joyful and a year of prosperity in 2013!

What is Holistic Life Planning for End of Life Care?

The New Year of 2013 comes with new consciousness and new thinking! When it comes to the end of life, what wishes do you have? How much do you want to be in control? What kind of resources do you have and what are the alternative options? Are you preparing it openly, or do you suffer from the lack of meaningful conversation of fear that your family or loved ones might think that you are giving up hope? Have you expressed your end-of-life care options with your primary doctor? If not, who do you address these issues with? All these questions are the holistic concept of life planning. A well planned end of life is the best gift that you can give to yourself or your love one and to prevent complicated grieving process. These are the important questions that you may consider asking yourself.

Indeed, Verde Valley Community Hospice is actively participating with the Verde Valley community to address these difficult issues that remain a taboo among our society. In 2012, Verde Valley Community Hospice has conducted more than 25 community events and educational workshops around the Verde Valley community. In 2013, Verde Valley Community Hospice will continue to provide information regarding end-of life care, legal, grief and life planning workshops, along with, events around the Verde Valley community. You are welcome to call us to schedule a special event or workshop for your facility or community group.
