Annual Breastfeeding Reunion

to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week

Join us for AJH's Annual Breast Feeding Reunion Picnic on Saturday, August 9th from 11:00am-1:00pm. For 20 years, Anna Jaques has hosted lactation classes that forged strong bonds amongst new mothers and their babies, and with fellow classmates. Come re-connect with old friends and families at Cashman Park by the playground. Bring a picnic lunch for yourself and your family to enjoy and we'll provide the water and cake!

The picnic will also spotlight World Breastfeeding Week. The theme this year is "Breastfeeding: A Winning Goal for Life!" to acknowledge the lifetime benefits that breastfeeding has for mothers and their babies.

Contact Ellena Preston, RN, IBCLC at 978-463-1079 with questions. The rain date location will be the Higgins Conference Room at AJH.

Travel Health Tips

Don't let an upset stomach or heartburn ruin your vacation. Read these tips on how to prevent or ease some traveling aches and pains:

  • Heartburn: If you suffer from heartburn, take an over-the-counter antacid before eating. Try to sit upright and sip water to clear your esophagus.

  • Car sickness: If you don't have anti-nausea medication, open the windows and ride in the front seat. Take deep breaths and try a snack to keep the nausea away.

  • Blisters: Prevent blisters by never wearing shoes that haven't been broken in while traveling and wear cotton socks to avoid chaffing. To treat a blister: ice your feet in cool water and keep them elevated.

  • Bad sunburn: For immediate relief, take a cold shower then apply a drugstore moisturizer such as Aquaphor or an aloe lotion. Take an ibuprofen to ease pain and inflammation.

Preventing common travel sicknesses is the best way to ensure a relaxing and enjoyable trip.

Sox for Socks Drive

The Red Sox Foundation and NESN have teamed up with Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program to collect new white athletic socks for homeless men and women. Rain-soaked feet, ill-fitting shoes, constant standing and diseases like diabetes take a toll on the feet of homeless people. Clean, white socks are a staple of homeless health care.

Dr. James DiResta and Dr. Angela Barnes, in conjunction with the Podiatry Division of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, are participating in the drive for our local community to make an impact. Drop off new white athletic socks through August 15th at:
