Letter from the Executive Director
As the first quarter comes to an end, we are pleased to report that IDEA students, families, and staff are settling into the new schedules, programs, and routines that we have created this school year. We've just completed our first successful round of family conferences, giving students and their parents the opportunities to meet with advisors to discuss student progress and opportunities for growth. We are excited about our new curriculum that ensures all of our work in the classroom is aligned with the highest educational standards, our strong focus on outstanding academics, and our cadre of dedicated teachers. We trust that if you haven't already observed it, you will soon see a rigorous intellectual environment at a transformed IDEA. By now you've likely already had a chance to meet our new leadership team-Head of Academics Alcine Mumby and Head of School Culture Justin Rydstrom-who are working with me as executive director to help guide IDEA to the level of educational excellence where all of our students will thrive. Count Day Is Coming up Next Wednesday!
IDEA's funding is directly related to our school population. When the Office of the State Superintendent of Education comes to IDEA to count students on Wednesday, November 14, it is critical that your child be there (and on time!) so we can ensure that IDEA receives the maximum possible funding so we can use those resources to educate all of our students.
Please make sure students arrive by 8:15am so they have time to eat a healthy breakfast before the enrollment audit begins. Please do not schedule any appointments for your child on this day.
We will celebrate count day by giving students a sweet treat if their advisories have 100% attendance on Wednesday. Please make sure your child is at school to help IDEA provide opportunities for all our students.

Coming Soon to IDEA
Next semester will bring new opportunities for IDEA students. Here are just a few of the offerings we have planned. Stay tuned for details.
- Microsoft IT Academy classes, which will enable IDEA students to work toward and obtain Microsoft certifications that are highly valued by employers.
- Music groups that will practice after school, led by Ms. Chapdelaine.
- An afterschool art club, led by Ms. Reintgen.

Family Conferences Were a Success
Thanks to the many students and families who came to our first-ever family conferences, our new family conference model was a success! We had terrific turnout and received great feedback from families. Here are a few comments that families made:
"This really helps. You know where your child is going in the future. I wish every school had these conferences." "I really enjoyed having my son lead his conference. It shows me that he is well informed. I really didn't know what to expect but it was great to know that my son has been keeping up...in his classes." "I really enjoy the new process; it's very helpful. I understand the grades a lot better. Just keep this format in place; it works a lot better. [My daughter's] lead teacher was very nice, polite, and explained everything to my understanding. I'm so pleased with this new process that has been put in place."
