Urgent:  Missionary Housing Needed
null

When we visited our LCMS partner church in Chile, we were impressed by the great need for missionaries to Chile. We attended a church service for releasing a missionary to return home and were in awe of the care shown to him, even as the congregation was saddened by the loss. Then we learned that a missionary was preparing to go to Chile, a former Area Director of Missions in the LCMS, Rev. Dr. James Tino. Our church extended an invitation for Rev. Tino to visit OSLM. He arrives Saturday, June 7th and leaves Tuesday, June 10th. Marcos and I will provide for his transportation. He needs housing for Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights. Please call the church office if you can assist. You can read more about him at www.globallutheranoutreach.com

Neighborhood News

The New Neighbor Ministry  that has been arranging visits to new families in Livermore for over three years has a new feature. We can now correlate the addresses of homes recently purchased with the addresses of present members of OSLC. Therefore we can now systematically alert members of OSLC when we discover a home recently purchased on their street. This makes it possible to welcome families who really will be future neighbors.

About a dozen members have been contacted so far and the results are encouraging.  This approach will be continued during the summer months. If home sales continue at the present rate, we may be able to arrange about ten contacts each week. Members will be alerted by telephone or email. If you have any questions or comments, please contact Charlie Swift at 925-443-4366 or by email at charlesswift@att.net.

Pastor Call Committee Meets

The Pastor Call Committee met for the first time on May 12, 2014. Its members include: Larry Gomes (Chairman), Jill Santos, Henry Westfall, Julia Lee, Norm Back, Nancy Mueller, Jesse Yow, Hanna Miller, Wayne Shotts, and Kayla Marchini. I ask that the congregation support this Committee in two ways: First, please PRAY for them and the Holy Spirit to lead them to our next Pastor; Second, please provide names of potential Pastor candidates to any of the Committee members. The Elders are working to refine a Senior Pastor Position Description for the Committee to work with. We will be working hard to keep you updated as they undertake this important process.

                                                            God's Peace,

Randy Brandt, Chairman of the Congregation

From the Lay Governing Board...

This description will be available at the meeting, and before then it can also be found at the back of the Sanctuary.    --Norman Back, LGB Secretary

LGB April Meeting Minutes Available: The Lay Governing Board had its regular

monthly meeting on April 8, 2014. The meeting minutes are available by clicking here. Feel free to contact any Lay Governing Board member if you have any questions.

Nominations Requested for District Offices

The Nominating Committee for the California-Nevada-Hawaii (CNH) District of the LCMS is looking for people who can be presented to the next District Convention (in 2015) for election to various District offices. Ordained ministers (pastors), commissioned ministers (teachers, DCE's, etc.), and lay people are all eligible. If you know of someone that you would like to suggest for this, please contact Norman Back by May 28, and he can get the information into the proper format for you. If possible, please be ready to provide the person's name, address, e-mail address, phone number, and congregation. You don't need to get the person's consent; that's the Nominating Committee's job. Thanks for your cooperation.

Stephen Ministry

"Yet, the strength of those who wait with hope in the Lord will be renewed. They will soar on wings like eagles.  They will run and won't become weary. They will walk and won't grow tired."
    Isaiah 40:31

If you would like a brother/sister in Christ to walk with you during a difficult time (or know someone who may) please pick up a referral form in the back of the church, complete it, and return it to Ron Anderson or Dennis Dirks.  You may also place your referral form in the drop box at the back of the church. A Stephen Minister will be in touch with you to walk with you during your time of difficulty.
