Dear Valley Stream Thirteen Families,

Schools will open for students on September 5, 2012. Everyone is getting ready for your child to do his or her personal best this school year.

There is so much you can do in the next week so that your child is ready for school. Begin to phase in normal bed times and morning procedures so that on September 5th your child arrives in school well-rested and ready to learn.

Spend time reading to or with your child for at least twenty minutes per day. Practice math facts with your child so that he or she returns to school ready to use the math facts. Practice counting with younger children. Have your child draw and/write about something they did this summer or what they hope to learn in school.

Do you have new neighbors with school-age children? Please encourage them to register for school this week. Registration is held at Memorial High School, One Kent Place in Valley Stream. The registration office is open from 8:30 AM TO 3:30 PM Monday to Friday until Tuesday, September 4. Please check the website, www.valleystream13.com for registration materials and information. The sooner families register for school the better able we are to plan for their arrival.
