Workplace Violence Prevention:

Members Experience Problems with Med Cert Cards

As you know since January of 2012, drivers have been required to submit their med cards to the State Driver's Licensing Agency (SDLA) as well as self-certify the type of driving they'd be doing (interstate vs intrastate). In turn, SDLAs are required to include the driver medical certification information on drivers' MVR within 10 days. Unfortunately, ATA has learned many SDLAs are struggling to add this information to the driver's record in a timely fashion. This has resulted in significant problems for drivers at roadside inspections and for motor carriers during compliance reviews. In an effort to discover the true scope of this problem, we'd like to request your input. Please take a moment to answer the following three questions by email.

  1. Have you experienced problems with timeliness of posting information to drivers' records and the process for doing so?  (Yes/No) If yes, please explain.
     2.  Does your state provide receipts to drivers and/or motor carriers after they
         have submitted the med card?
     3.  Does your state licensing agencies contact drivers or motor carriers if

there is a problem with the medical card (illegible, failure to self-certify, etc.).

Please send your replies directly to [email protected]. He may follow-up with you if additional information is needed.

New On-line Training Course

Do you know the various types of human trafficking or the difference between smuggling and trafficking? If you were presented with a certain set of circumstances, would you know if you were seeing something suspicious, possibly trafficking? Would you know what to do?

We invite you to take a few moments and go through our new course to help you understand human trafficking a little better. It features audio, videos - one clip with a survivor - quizzes and specific-to-role scenarios, as well as help for parents in educating their children. It's interactive, highly educational, and

easily accessible.

We hope you'll learn something new and have a great time doing it -  http://education.truckersagainsttrafficking.org/

Share it with others in the trucking industry as well. It's online and ready to use.
