General News

Prom Tickets on Sale Now 

 

Prom tickets are now on sale! Tickets are being sold in front of the finance office at lunch only until May 9th. Tickets are $70 the week of May 1, and will increase each week by $5. You can pick up permission and guest forms in front of the ASB room. You must be cleared for textbooks, library books, unexcused absences and have your student ID to purchase a ticket.

 

Preparation for AP Environmental Science

 

Preparation for the AP Environmental Science test on May 5 will continue in Room 22:  on Tuesday, April 29; Wednesday, April 30; and Thursday, May 1, at 11:15; and on Sunday, May 4, from 2:00 - 5:00 pm.  Ms. Falls will bring snacks to the weekend study session. Bring your textbook, a test prep book, and any past year test questions you want to go over. Ms. Falls will have practice questions for you.

 

FashionTEENs Santa Cruz

 

Please join us for an evening of boundless joy, celebrating the creativity and enthusiasm of our artistic youth. One hundred and twenty teens from sixteen Santa Cruz County Middle Schools and High Schools will model their original fashions. More than 50% of this year's designs will feature recycled materials. Sponsored by the Arts Council of Santa Cruz County, the Environmental Clean-up Coalition, fashionART, Santa Cruz City Schools, the City of Santa Cruz and Schools Plus.

 
Annual Santa Cruz Art League High School Show

 

The Santa Cruz Art League is holding its annual show featuring high school students from around Santa Cruz County.

  

Exhibition Dates:  May 3 - 25.

Reception:  May 10, 3:00 - 5:00 pm

 SC Art League Hours of Operation:
       Wednesday-Saturday: 12pm to 5pm
       Sunday: 12pm to 4pm
       First Fridays of the month: 12pm to 9pm
       Monday and Tuesday: closed

  

Return All Library Books by May 30

 

May 30th is the final due date for all SCHS library books.  Please check the nightstand, under the bed, the trunk of your car, and in your locker to see if you might have any library materials, (or textbooks), hiding there, and return them to the library or textbook room. Thank you!

 

ROP Information Technology Course at Cruzio 

 

Students interested in the ROP Information Technology course taught at Cruzio need to pick up an application ASAP in the SCHS Counseling Center. The class covers how the internet works, Unix, how data-bases are used, and how to program a computer.

UCSC Summer School

 

UCSC welcomes high schoolers after their sophomore year!  

 

Here's the High School Student Registration link, including brief applica- tion, HS verification form, how to enroll, the summer calendar, etc.  The app takes a few days to process then we'll email you your account infor- mation. Open now til June 15.

 

Snoop around our UCSC Summer Course List by department.  Prere- quisites and restrictions are LIFTED in summer - you're welcome in any course (#1-99) and don't need show transcripts.  You'll earn UCSC credits, easily and immediately transferrable to all UCs (or to any college).

 

Visit summer.ucsc.edu for more info on fees, policies, housing, etc.  Remember, if you enroll in summer courses, the campus (fitness center, libraries, computer labs, and more) is yours, ALL summer!

Spring Musical - A Mid-Summer Night's Dream!

 

Hey SCHS!  It's almost fairy time! SCHS Theater presents, A Mid-Summer Night's Dream - Friday and Saturday May 2, 3, 9, and 10 at 7:00 pm.  Come experience the magic! 

 

Counseling

SAT/Subject Tests

 

The regular deadline for the June 7th SAT/Subject Tests is May 9th. For more information about other test dates, registration and deadlines visit www.collegeboard.com and for questions about SATs and Subject Tests please contact the SCHS guidance office at 429-3960 x 300.

 

ACT Tests

Revolution Prep, a full service college readiness company, has several different programs to help Santa Cruz High School students improve their test scores and grades. This month they are offering Small Group Courses for the June SAT and ACT tests dates. These courses are starting as early as May 1st and are taught by expert tutors such as Brendan Getzell. The average score improvement is 332 points on the SAT and 4 points on the ACT! If your child needs extra help on an SAT/ACT, Subject Tests, AP exams or is in a tough class, please call Bay Area Academic Advisor Eric Hoffman at 424-214-2373. He will help you create a customized plan to help your student reach their goals. Scholarships are available.

 

Summer School

 

Santa Cruz City Schools is providing an opportunity for students to make up credits through their summer school program that will be run out of Harbor High from June 16th to July 11th. Most course work will be completed through an Independent Studies format. Students may earn up to 10 credits. There will also be a classroom-based program designed to improve skills in math. Please have your student come to the Santa Cruz High School Counseling Office to pick up the Summer School Referral Form and more information.

 

Additional summer school options are planned through the County Office of Education. These will include: classroom-based instruction in math and English, as well as many other subjects via the Independent Studies format. For more information please contact a Santa Cruz High counselor.

 

Career Panels in U.S. History Classes May 14th

 

Students will ask career focused questions of panelists that they have pre-selected. Sponsored by Your Future Is Our Business. Cookies provided by our PTA.

 

Career Locker Activities in 9th Grade Core Classes

 

 Date TBD.  Students learn about different career pathways based on their strengths and interests.

 

Granite Rock Career Day-May 2nd

 

ROP Construction Tech class will be visiting the Granite Rock site in Aromas learning about  different careers in the construction industry. Co-sponsored by Cabrillo College and Granite Rock. Students' bag lunch provided by our PTA. 

Athletics

Sports Physicals Offered in May for Next Year

 

Attention all SCHS athletes!  Athletic sports physicals will be offered in the gym on Tuesday, May 20, at 3:30.  The cost will be $25.00, with proceeds going to SCHS Athletics.  Please make checks out to Santa Cruz High Athletics.  You may find the pre-physical information sheet on the SCHS website - click on "Athletic Packet", on the "Sports Home" webpage, and scroll down to pages 10 and 11.  For more information please contact Erik Redding, Athletic Director, at 429-3960, x308, or eredding@sccs.santacruz.k12.ca.us .

Bring Home the World - Host a High School Student from Italy, France or Germany!

 

International Student Services Santa Cruz is a locally-based program linking our area with overseas friends for the last 32 years.  Students

have a busy daytime schedule of English classes, local activities and bus excursions. American host family teenagers are welcome to join in

class & activities! 

  

This program's focus is the relationship between student & family.  They're eager to live with an American family; having teenagers isn't a requirement.  Students are singly placed, except for some requested double placements. This maximizes using English, mutual interaction & understanding.  The hospitality of local families has become well-known 

overseas.  Make a friend you can visit!
