General News
Holiday Book Drive
Please join Bookshop Santa Cruz in providing much needed books to local schools by purchasing gift cards for school libraries, books from schools' wish lists (available online at www.bookshopsantacruz.com or at the Bookshop Santa Cruz information desk), or the books of your choice.  Receive 20% off books purchased for the Book Drive through December 31 at Bookshop Santa Cruz.  Contributions will be distributed by the Santa Cruz Education Foundation, the Pajaro Valley Unified School District, and the Scotts Valley Educational Foundation.   Thank you for supporting local public schools!

Downtown Holiday Parade
Come to the Downtown Holiday Parade on December 7!  Plan to meet up in the vicinity of the Saturn Café no later than 9:30 am.  The parade begins at 10:00 am.  Wear your school swag, bring banners and flags - the more, the merrier!   Show the community our pride in our schools.

PTA Annual Giving Campaign
Please consider giving a $100 donation to support our SCHS students and teachers.  Your gift will help us reach our goal of 100% family participation, to honor the 100 years that the PTA has been active at SCHS.  Please donate to the PTA Annual Giving Campaign here at: http://schspta.weebly.com/donate.html

Angel Tree
There is an "Angel Tree" in the office.  Stop by to get a tag to donate a present to a child to make their holidays a little brighter.  Presents can be dropped off in the main office.
Thank You and Congratulations

As part of a heightened concern regarding safety on campus, two weeks ago 250 goats arrived on campus to reduce overgrown vegetation along the hillside between the upper and lower campus.  They were a hungry crew, and successfully cleared out the area, leaving a mountain of bottles, cans, wrappers, and other debris.

Thanks to the efforts of several parents, the trash was cleaned up, and put out for garbage and recycling pickup.  The area is now cleaner than ever!  A huge Cardinal thank you to those parents for your support!

Preparing Your High School Athlete for College Sports -
"College Recruiting Simplified"

Wednesday, December 11, 6:00 - 8:00 pm
Museum of Art and History
705 Front St., Santa Cruz

Does your athletic teenager dream of playing college sports, or of earning a sports scholarship?  Learn how to prepare for college sports, how to connect with college coaches, and how to navigate the recruitment process with college recruitment expert Julian Jenkins, an educator with the National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA).

A former Stanford scholarship athlete and NFL player, Jenkins will discuss the realities of the college recruiting process and offer solid tips on how to prepare for a college sports career at the NCAA, NAIA, or community college level.  The lecture is FREE, open to the public, and co-sponsored by the Santa Cruz High School PTA and the Scotts Valley High School Falcons Athletic Club.

For more information on the NCSA, visit their website at http://www.ncsasports.org.  If you have questions about this event, please email Maria Gaura at mgaura@cruzio.com.

Athletics

The Cardinal Club would like to extend a huge thank you to all who volunteered in the football snack shack this past season.  We had a hugely successful year!  This would not have been possible without our many volunteers who were coordinated by Jill Grossi and Sheila Stoller.  The biggest thank you must go out to Sal and Dawn Locatelli who for the past couple of years have coordinated the entire snack shack production.  We believe they are the reason we were told over and over that we were the best snack in the league!  Thank you so much Sal and Dawn for your continued commitment to SCHS sports.

Ready to buy some Cardinal Wear for your holiday gifts?  Please visit the school website and follow the link to the sports home page.  You may also contact Suzette Gilmore at callysuzy@yahoo.com.

Please remember that with the start of all the winter sports, Cardinal Club memberships are still available and a great deal.  Please find the membership form on the Cardinal Club page on the school website, and fill it out and send it in.  This would also make a great present for the cardinal fan on your list!

Next year the Cardinal Club will be looking for a new President, Vice President, and Treasurer.  Now is the time to come and join us, and see the great work that the Cardinal Club is doing for all sports at SCHS.  If you have any questions, please contact the Cardinal Club at schscardinalclub@gmail.com - we would love to hear from you.  The Cardinal Club meets every 3rd Wednesday of the month in the library at 6:30 pm and everyone is welcome!
