From the Desk of the ASLM CEO

Dear friends,

The ASLM headquarters in Addis Ababa continues to grow and expand its activities, and I am pleased to provide you with this month's important updates. On 22 July, I spoke at a satellite symposium hosted by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) at the International AIDS Conference, AIDS2012, in Washington, DC. In line with the ASLM mission, my presentation called attention to the importance of laboratory capacity-building and workforce development in Africa. ASLM is proud to work with critical partners, such as ASCP Global Outreach, and we continue to expand our collaborations with institutions and organizations throughout the world.

I am also proud to announce the release of the 4th edition of Lab Culture, ASLM's quarterly newsletter. This issue features an interview with Dr. Robert Gallo, co-discoverer of HIV, along  with many other very interesting articles.

ASLM staff and partners continue to register participants for ASLM2012, ASLM's first international conference to be held 1-7 December 2012 in Cape Town, South Africa. I want to close by thanking the hundreds of colleagues throughout Africa and the world for submitting abstracts to ASLM2012. Your support is critical to improving laboratory networks in Africa, and I look forward to your participation in Cape Town.

Kind regards,

Dr. Tsehaynesh Messele
