Chamber Updated on Napa Drought Situation

In January, Governor Jerry Brown declared a Drought State of Emergency, encouraging all Californians to reduce water consumption by 20%. Even with the recent rainfall, the shortage continues to weigh heavily on everyone's minds, perhaps business owners most of all. So what can businesses do to mitigate the effects of the drought and conserve water? On February 12th, the Chamber's Legislative Action Committee met with Joy Eldredge, Water General Manager of the City of Napa, to discuss.

Commercial, industrial, and institutional water consumption represents more than 20% of Napa's water demand. Businesses, then, have the potential for substantial conservation in this community, and the City of Napa has developed innovative programs to help businesses cope with the cost. The City's free Water-Wise Business Survey includes a review of past water usage and a site visit, with a follow-up report identifying applicable rebates and recommended improvements. A free Sprinkler Times scheduling tool and a generous "Cash For Grass" rebate (up to $2,500) will help make your landscape water-wise.  For more information, visit the City's website or to schedule your free Water-Wise Business Survey, call (707) 257-9497. The City also offers a $500 Green Business Stipend for businesses that complete that certification program, which includes a significant water efficiency component.

The Napa Chamber of Commerce hopes to help you and your business adjust to the growing need for water conservation by providing you with tools to reduce your consumption. If you have any questions regarding what you can do, please contact the Chamber or visit cityofnapa.org/water.
