Taking Pride in Your Community The Seward County Chamber & Development Partnership (SCCDP) is hosting the Seward County Clean Up on Saturday, April 23 to assist in cleaning up our communities. The event details are listed below. Please consider participating and taking pride in beautifying your community and in turn, Seward County.
The SCCDP is partnering with Southeast Community College (Milford Campus) on Tuesday, April 19 for their Trades & Industry Career Fair. We are bringing students from Centennial, Milford, and Seward High Schools to learn about career and training opportunities that are available to them in Seward County. This is a tangible way that the SCCDP is working with local employers to help them hire excellent homegrown talent in the future. We are fortunate to have a wonderful vocational and technical college in Seward County that is willing to partner to help support our local employers.
The SCCDP is collaborating with the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce to participate in the Hiring Heroes Career Fair for Veterans on Wednesday, April 20 at Fort Riley, Kansas. We will be encouraging Veterans retiring from military service to look at Seward County as an ideal place to live, work, and raise a family. The SCCDP is partnering with the Seward County Veteran's Service Office on this talent recruitment trip to identify the county-wide assets we have to support Veterans. We're looking forward to promoting our local job opportunities and great quality of life!
The SCCDP has hired Todd Kirshenbaum as our Vice President. We are excited to welcome him to our organization (Today is his first day on the job!). He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the SCCDP, especially in the industries of Chambers of Commerce and Tourism. The Seward County Independent was gracious to run a press release in last week's newspaper giving more details about Todd's professional background. Here is the link: SCI. Please take the time to welcome him to Seward County! His e-mail address (active Tuesday) will be: Todd.Kirshenbaum@sewardne.com. He is anxious to get involved in the community.

Baseball Lingo
Below are the definitions from last week's list of lingo. How did you do?
Baltimore Chop - A ground ball that hits in front of home plate (or off of it) and takes a large hop over the infielder's head. Bean Ball - When a pitcher throws a pitch high above the shoulders and in too close to the hitter, it is called a bean ball. Break out a New Can - Razzing a pitcher after he has thrown a wild pitch or two. Can of Corn - An easy catch by a fielder. A ball hit almost directly into the out fielders position popped into the air for a easy play. Caught Looking - When a batter is called out on strikes without taking a swing at the third strike. Cheese - "Good cheese." Refers to a good fastball. Chin Music - A pitch that is high and inside. Dinger - A home run. Hot Corner - Third base is also known as the hot corner. Predominantly, most teams are made up of right hand batting ball players. The odds are greatest; therefore, that the third baseman gets many more balls coming his way than say the first baseman. Rattle the Fence - Sometimes a batter will hit a ball that is like a rocket blast and hangs a good lick onto the outfield wall or fence. Sometimes, just to give a heavy hitter some teammate encouragement, we will get his hopes up with, "Come on Big Boy rattle the fence". Rhubarb - A fight or scuffle.
