From Kathy's Desk
The Chamber Board of Directors has elected officers for 2016 and we're happy to announce them: President, Jeanne Wiemer, owner of Red Path Gallery & Tasting Room; Vice President, Sue McHugh, Director of Seward Youth Center; and Treasurer, Nancy Dolezal, loan administration officer at The Cattle Bank National Bank. Congratulations and thank you for your service on the board of directors. We will recognize several outgoing directors at The Extravaganza on January 19th. We look forward to seeing you there.
Kudos and BIG THANK-YOU'S to all of the volunteers at Winter Wonderland and the Santa House. It's a wrap for another year and know that hundreds and hundreds of smiles were given to children in the Seward area thanks to these two attractions, along with the letters to Santa. Thank you to the Seward County Independent for publishing letters to Santa. Awesome job everyone. If you would like to view the Pure Nebraska segment Channel 10/11 did on Seward about these events, click here.
I am sorry to say we have cancelled the 2016 Spring Show. Refunds are being issued to those who have registered and we thank you for your interest. After 28 years it is time to move onto something new and we're open to ideas and suggestions that will benefit more Chamber and local businesses and help provide some revenue for your Chamber of Commerce. Feel free to share any ideas and recommendations. Thank you to this year's committee volunteers who have worked to help continue this event - Crystal Kirby of Campbell Cleaning, Nolan Rathe of Waddell and Reed, Jill Martin of the Seward County Independent, Fred Redmond of the Seward County Agricultural Society, and Gary Rolf of The Cattle National Bank & Trust.
There has been so much going on at the Chamber office this year, especially this month and the past few months. It's been a bit like a retail shop here lately with all of the Chamber Bucks, ornaments and miniatures flying out the front door! Plus the events and contests, billings, database updates, QuickBooks updates, reports, etc. Please join me in saying "Thank You" to Denise Christensen and Resa Lavicky, our executive assistants, for all of their work, time and support this year. They have been very good to work with and support all of you in your business! THANK YOU DENISE and RESA.
Have a safe and happy New Year,
Kathy Evert

Allen Barghahn Customer Service Award Nominations Needed
Last year the first Allen Barghahn Customer Service Award was started and presented to Allen Barghahn. We are seeking nominations to recognize outstanding customer service in the Seward area. Customer service is a vital component of how those shopping for goods and services view our community; it is a huge factor when deciding where to spend money and time. So as you are out and about shopping this Christmas season, give thought to those who you feel deserve special recognition and consideration for this year's award, send their name and where they work, and why you feel they deserve this award to Kathy.Evert@sewardne.com no later than January 5th.

The Seward Area Chamber of Commerce is accepting nominations through January 1st for the Agribusiness of the Year Award. The Award will be presented at the Kiwanis Ag Recognition Banquet held in March. The award is designed to bring recognition to an individual or business that has created new jobs or other economic opportunities in Seward County agriculture. This could include expanding markets, engaging the non-farm public in promotion of agricultural products, leadership roles in agricultural organizations, or extraordinary effort during a career in agriculture. |
