From the Director

Today, the Ambassadors and I greeted public school staff as they came together for their beginning of the year meeting. Tomorrow, we greet the Concordia Staff. Thanks to our back to school sponsors, Grace Minto LLC, The Cattle National Bank and Trust Company and Zabka Funeral Home. Through their generosity, we have been able to contribute to the breakfasts for these dedicated educators!

I am looking forward to tomorrow's lunch and learn in cooperation with Seward County Economic Development on marketing your main street business in a dot com world featuring Colby Angst from Play Creative in Lincoln. Play Creative  is a design studio that focuses on dynamic and eye-catching marketing pieces that deliver results. We'll also have information from our local printers, Helmink Printing and Graphic Design and the Seward County Independent. We'll be meeting in the East Civic Center Basement at noon. If you forgot to call in your meal reservation, please do so right away! Sparetime will be catering their fabulous brisket; $10 per person payable to the Chamber at the door. Save the date for our September 9th luncheon as well; we will be discussing the latest healthcare issues.

We had a ton of fun with Diving for Ducks and the Duck Race this weekend. No one won the car this year, but there were many great prizes. Thanks to our event sponsors, prize donors, those who bought tickets, and Dr. Jordan Folkers and all the other volunteers!

Thanks to our major donors for Olde Glory. We are moving closer to the fire sprinkler system for the building. We have approximately 2/3 of the money we need to begin sprinkler project. If you have been thinking about donating, now is the perfect time to add your name to the list below!

$5,000 - Jones National Bank and Trust

$5,000 - The Cattle National Bank and Trust

         $5,000 - Dr J.B. and Carla Ketner

$5,000 - Harvey and Trish Johnson

$6,000 - in Memory of Carol J. Lieske

         $12,000 - Goehner Centennial Players

Remember, we have nomination forms in the office for next year's Unite 16 Leadership Development class. If you know someone who would benefit from being a part of next year's Leading Locally group, please nominate them!

Seward County Fair & Duck Race

The above photo shows volunteer, Sue Imig, selling a duck at the Chamber /SCVC booth at the County Fair sponsored by the SCVC, the Chamber and the Seward County Economic Development Committees. Ducks were sold at the booth, along with the distribution of various promotional materials for Seward, Seward County and Nebraska. Thanks to the volunteers that worked the fair booth including Sue Imig, Mary Meyer, and Clark Kolterman from County Visitors, Jonathan Jank and Andrew Malan from SCED, CJ Novak from Pac N Save, Kandi Brown from H&R Block, Brenda Henning from State Farm, Gary Rolf from The Cattle Bank, Pat Coldiron from Liberty House, Dixie Zabka from Zabka Funeral Home, Monica Sommerfeld from Massage Wellness Therapy, Roger and Sharon Glawatz, Del and Kathleen Peters, and Jean Kolterman. The winner of a free night's lodging in Seward County will be drawn at the next Seward Co. Visitor's Committee meeting on Tuesday, August 19!

Diving for Ducks was held at the pool at 3:03 pm on Saturday before the Duck Race.  Kids had a chance to dive for coins and
for ducks that were turned in for prizes.  Thanks to Waddell & Reed, Victorine Originals, Sam & Louie's, Godfather's Pizza, Pizza Kitchen, Runza, Dairy Queen, and Amigos for donating those prizes.  Sponsors for the coins were Jones Insurance Agency, Union Bank, Fox Den Rentals and Victorine Originals.

Ten duck tickets were drawn out of all the tickets sold and those 10 duck numbers were eligible to win the 2015 Chrysler 200 donated by Herpolsheimers.  Unfortunately, there were no winners of the car, but plenty of other prizes were given away.  See the link below for the lucky winners!  A special thanks to Jordan Folkers of Hackbart Chiropractic for getting in the water with the ducks, Greg Zabka of Zabka Funeral Home for helping to launch the ducks, and Kandi Brown for help selling tickets before the race.  And thanks to everyone who helped support the event.  Over $5,000 was raised for the Chamber!
