Greetings!
October was an outstanding celebration for our alumni. Homecoming kicked off the festivities, as 300 alumni from Serra, Mercy and Notre Dame enjoyed the Homecoming barbecue and Serra's "Friday Night Lights" football game against Saint Ignatius.

Next was the Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet. I am extremely proud of this year's inductees. All of the honorees represent Serra on and off the field.

On November 18 and 19, our student volunteers will be calling our alums for the Annual Phonathon. These Padres are doing their part to support Serra. I encourage you to talk to a Padre and donate if you can. We are grateful for any donation.

Finally, I hope to see you later this month at the Fall Alumni Games on November 26-28. (See the story below for details.)

Hope to see you on campus very soon. If you are interested in touring the new campus, please feel free to contact me. Go Padres!

Sincerely,

Bob Greene, Jr. '85

Serra Novelist's Latest Thriller is Number One Download

Serra alumnus Bob Dugoni '79 received incredible news a few weeks ago - his latest novel was Amazon's number one download in America. My Sister's Grave, which was released earlier this month, marks Dugoni's eighth legal thriller.

"When I set out to write My Sister's Grave, I wanted to show the devastation that a violent crime has not only on the victim, but the victim's family and community," Dugoni noted. "When that community is a small town and the family is prominent, the town never fully recovers. So I wanted a book that, while justice is seemingly served, there is always a haunting sense of loss that can never be fully healed."

My Sister's Grave is available at Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble. Congratulations, Bob!

Eight Padres Honored by National Merit Corporation

Eight Serra Padres have been recognized for academic excellence by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. This year marks the 60th National Merit Scholarship competition.

Serra's commended students are Seth Bartlett, Keith Dorais, Sean Kim, Joseph Kmak and Rohan Kothari. About 34,000 students qualified as commended students of the more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2015 competition by taking the 2013 PSAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

The three semifinalists are Jeffrey Dalli, Siddharth Viswanathan and Joseph Kaiser. Only 16,000 students in the nation qualified as semifinalists, and they will have an opportunity to continue in the competition for 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million.

"We are incredibly proud of the exceptional academic performance of our students," said Serra Principal Barry Thornton, Ed.D. "Their recognition by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation is a testament to their tireless work ethic and their instructors' skillful guidance."
