I hope you are all having a fantastic summer! Serra has been packed with a variety of summer camps and summer school, so our halls are filled with excitement and energy.
As we look forward to the beginning of the new school year, I invite you attend our upcoming alumni events. Some of you are parents of incoming Padres - I can't wait to see you at the Alumni Father-Son Mass on September 19. Next, let's reunite with our Mercy and Notre Dame friends at the Homecoming Game and Alumni Barbecue on October 10. Finally, the Hall of Fame Dinner on October 11 is sure to be a night to remember - congratulations to this year's honorees.
Until then, I wish you and your family a restful end of the summer.
Sincerely,
Bob Greene, Jr. '85 Alumni Director

Golf and Tennis Tournament Raises $26,000
for Alumni Scholarship Fund
|
The Serra Golf Classic and Tennis Tournament on June 23 raised $26,000 for the Alumni Scholarship Fund. It was a beautiful day at Peninsula Golf and Country Club, where a sell-out group of Padres and Padre supporters enjoyed an outstanding day of golf, lunch and dinner. A special shout-out to our event sponsors, who made the golf tournament such a success. This year marked the first annual Ladies' Tennis Tournament for Serra moms, mothers of alumni and supporters. Twenty-two ladies participated, and they enjoyed a few hours of tennis and lunch in the PGCC ballroom. Thank you to Andrea Moore for your hard work and coordination of this awesome event! |
Members of the Hall of Fame Committee are proud to announce the 2014 honorees - Mariano Bermudez '91 (basketball and football), Dylan Cappel '96 (crew), Todd Conneely '92 (baseball and basketball), Jimmy Orozco '97 (swimming and water polo), and members of the 1975 Cross Country Team.
This extraordinary evening will be held on Saturday, October 11 at Serra High School. Online R.S.V.P.s will be open in August.
Congratulations to our 2014 inductees!

| Serra Graduation Marks a Milestone |

It was a memorable afternoon on June 1, when 186 Serra seniors graduated at St. Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco. This year's Class of 2014 earned $14.5 million in college scholarships and completed almost 35,000 hours of community service.
The graduation Mass was celebrated by Fr. Joe Bradley '73, Fr. Dave Ghiorso, Fr. Michael Mahoney and Fr. Mark Reburiano. Student Body President Kevin Afiesh welcomed the Serra community. This year's valedictorians were Bhavik Patel, Nicholas Schnabel and Christian Villanueva.
Congratulations to the Class of 2014. A whopping 99 to 100 percent of our graduates are heading to universities and colleges all over the United States. We wish them the best, as they begin the next exciting chapter of their lives!

Incoming Freshmen Enjoy Giants Night at Serra
|
Members of the Class of 2018 and their dads attended Serra Giants Night in June. With the San Francisco Giants game beaming from big screen TVs and steaming pizza on their plates, more than 170 new Padres and their dads enjoyed a fun-filled evening as they watched the Giants play against the Chicago White Sox.
The event marked the fourth annual Giants Night, which allows new students to meet each other in a casual setting while their dads connect with other new parents.
"I love Giants Night at Serra," said Admissions Director Randy Vogel. "The incoming freshmen bonded with one another right away, while the dads met each other and shared stories of their high school days. Of the 260 incoming freshmen, 24 are sons of Serra alumni and seven are grandsons of alumni."
Even without a Giants win, the event scored a resounding A+ with all who attended!
