Greetings!

We love the fact that our alumni attend our Serra functions, sporting events and performing arts presentations.  However, some of these functions conflict with each other.  Specifically, this occurs when we schedule the Hall of Fame and class reunions one week apart.

Every other year, some of our alumni are faced with a tough decision and have to choose which event to attend.  We do not want to put our fellow Padres in a position where they have to choose one event over another.  This led us to re-evaluate how we plan our reunions.  During this process, we surveyed alumni of all ages - including Serra faculty alumni - and members of the Serra Alumni Board.  As a result of your input, we have decided to move forward with a new plan.

From now on, we will alternate the Hall of Fame and Serra reunions - each event will occur every other year.  The next Hall of Fame is planned for October of 2014, and the next reunion will be held in October of 2015.  We want our functions to be accessible to all so that we can continue to provide outstanding events for our alumni.

Please note: We will continue to host the 50-Year-Club Luncheon and the Homecoming Alumni Barbecue every year.  If you have any questions about the new schedule, please feel free to contact us immediately.

Thank you for your understanding and for your support of Serra!

Sincerely,

Fund a Dream Update
Fund a Dream was an exceptional evening. Keynote speaker Bishop William Justice '60 and our alumni special guests did an outstanding job.

A highlight of the evening was an inspirational speech by Cris Perla '12.  Cris thanked the Serra community for believing in him, encouraging him and creating opportunities for him. We strive to do that every day, for every one of our students. Our financial aid program enabled him to attend Serra and have a bright future.

The response to Fund a Dream 2014 has been extraordinary, and to date we have raised more than $360,000. This response helps make the dream of a Catholic education come true for hundreds of young men who wish to attend Serra.

Crew Team Members Host Row-a-Thon

Members of the Serra crew team hosted the annual Row-a-Thon fundraiser at Bair Island Aquatic Center on February 23. Parents and other benefactors had a unique opportunity to learn what it takes to be a rower.

Visitors rowed in eight-man boats in the bay, and discovered how grueling it is to practice on ergometers on land. The highlight of the day was when Head Crew Coach Adam Jones christened two brand new, two-man boats. The Siempre Adelante and the La Madre are expected to help the crew team achieve outstanding results this spring.

The Siempre Adelante is a tribute to Fr. Serra's motto, "Always forward." The La Madre was named in honor of Loretta Callies, the mother of Serra Assistant Crew Coach Gavin Callies '07 and Marshall Callies '10.

"Loretta has been an integral part of the crew program since 2003," Coach Jones noted. "For more than a decade, she has been the consistent factor that has held our program together. We wanted to honor Loretta for her commitment and service to our crew teams."

Once a Padre, Always a Padre!
