Greetings!
On June 23, the Alumni Association will host its biggest fundraiser of the year - the Serra Golf Classic. We are looking forward to another wonderful day of golf with the Serra Community.

This year's tournament will be held at the Peninsula Golf and Country Club in San Mateo. The day will begin with lunch, followed by a round of golf, and ending with a hearty dinner in the ballroom.

Last year, we raised $27,000 for the Alumni Scholarship Fund - that was incredible! This year, we hope to match or even exceed that amount.

If you would like to be a sponsor this year or register to play in the tournament, please  CLICK HERE.  Last year's Golf Classic sold out early - so please register A.S.A.P.

Hope to see you there!

Sincerely,

The Alumni Award of Merit was established in 2002 by the Alumni Association Board of Directors, and was first awarded in September of 2003. It was created to honor alumni who have soared in their professional fields - exceptional men who have brought distinction and honor to Serra High School.

Fund a Dream is February 19
It's not to late to buy individual tickets for Fund a Dream! Please CLICK HERE to register. Since its inception in 2005, Fund a Dream event has raised $1.9 million for students who need financial aid in order to afford a Serra education. For the current school year, we received requests from almost 400 families who asked for $3.5 million in financial aid. We awarded $2.4 million to 276 students who otherwise would not have been able to attend Serra.

Fund a Dream will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19 in the Serra Morton Family Gymnasium.

This year, we will welcome San Francisco Auxiliary Bishop William Justice '60 as our keynote speaker. Our celebrity emcee will be NFL Hall-of-Famer and four-time Super Bowl champion Lynn Swann '70. Special guests will include author and screenwriter Peter Barsocchini '70, retired District Attorney Jim Fox '62, former New York Times Executive Editor Bill Keller '66, best-selling author John Lescroart '66, and offensive tackle for the Green Bay Packers David Bahktiari '09.

Senior Nick Schnabel Honored by Local Newspaper

Senior Nick Schnabel is a perfect example of a well-rounded student. He manages stellar grades with outstanding community service and athletics. A few weeks ago, Nick was named Player of the Week by The Daily Journal for his masterful footwork on the soccer field. He broke Serra school records this season for scoring the most goals in a single season - 18 (the school record was 17).

"Nick is very deserving of this award," said Serra Head Soccer Coach Jeff Panos. "He has had a tremendous start to our season, and he represents all facets of what it means to be a true Serra Padre. Nick has earned the respect of the entire team because of the way he carries himself so humbly, yet so driven, every day."

In addition to his on-the-field success, Nick maintains a 4.62 grade point average. He hopes to major in engineering next year in college. Community service is important to this Serra senior.  In addition to participating in Serra's Rebuilding Together home improvement service days, Nick recently received the San Mateo County Sheriff's Activities League Community Service Award.  He spends at least two hours each week tutoring children with their homework.

"I think of it as a fun activity," Nick noted. "After finishing their homework, we play soccer.  It's important to give back to the community and foster human interaction. I enjoy working with kids because they're always so joyful."

Once a Padre, Always a Padre!
