This fall, I am looking forward to many exciting alumni events. The Alumni Father-Son Mass was a tremendous success, with 80 fathers, sons and grandfathers in attendance.
Last weekend, we welcomed Padres from all generations at the Homecoming Alumni Barbecue on Friday night, followed by a high-energy reunion on Saturday night. The Serra gym was packed with alumni from all walks of life who enjoyed catching up with their Padre brothers.
We invite you to join us at our upcoming events, which are listed on the left of this e-blast. Additional events are listed HERE on our alumni home page. Hope to see you on campus!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Join Us for Novemberfest on November 23!
|
Novemberfest on Saturday, November 23 will be Serra's major fall fundraiser this year. The event will be held from 6 to 11 p.m., and it will replace our traditional annual auction. The theme for this exciting event will be similar to Oktoberfest, with celebratory touches of November. The evening will include music, singing, dancing, games and the very best cuisine.
Our primary focus will be the Novemberfest Grand Raffle. Our goal is to have 100% raffle ticket sales participation from students, alumni and parents of alumni. Raffle tickets are only $10 each, with a chance to win a grand prize of $10,000 cash! The second place prize is $5,000, and the third place prize is $2,500. You can also increase your chances of winning by purchasing a discounted book of 12 raffle tickets for $100. Additional ways you can help include: * Donating items such as wine, event tickets, sports tickets, gift certificates, etc. * Becoming a sponsor or underwriter

Fr. Tommy King '74 to Receive Junipero Serra Award
|
The Junipero Serra Award will be presented to Fr. Tommy King '74 on Tuesday, November 26 during a special Mass celebrating the 300th birthday of Fr. Junipero Serra.
Fr. Tommy makes a difference every day by making people feel welcome at St. Boniface Church in San Francisco. In the heart of the Tenderloin neighborhood, Fr. Tommy listens to his parishioners' struggles, prays with them and offers them a sense of hope. The population in the Tenderloin is dense - about 20,000 people live within 25 square blocks - and it is known as a high-crime area.
"As a Franciscan priest, I thrive on working with people on the margins," Fr. Tommy said. "I don't have anything to offer anybody if I don't have a sense of joy."
According to Serra Chaplain Fr. Joe Bradley '73, "Fr. Tom King is an awesome priest and everything a Serra Padre should be. He is a man of prayer with a passionate commitment to social justice. Fr. Tom brings a genuine sense of joy and humility to his ministry. I have tremendous respect for Tommy, and I'm delighted he has been nominated for this award. On a day when we honor Fr. Serra, I cannot think of a better example of ministry and faith than Fr. Tom King." |
