a great success!

200 students and community members (100 on Missouri campus and 100 on Arizona campus) attended the 2014 Annual Lecture on Aging on Thursday, April 3, 2014. The lecture featured Dr. Joseph Flaherty, M.D., who spoke on the topic,"So Many Drugs, So Little Time: A Focus on Polypharmacy."
One of the attendees described his session as a "great interactive lecture...[he] put us in the position of a physician who had limited time with their patients, and quickly showed us how to be effective at addressing polypharmacy issues with patients, especially the elderly."
Dr. Flaherty is the Co-Director of the Fellowship Program for the Division of Geriatrics at Saint Louis University, the Co-Medical Director of the Palliative Care Consult Service at Saint Louis University Hospital, the Medical Director of the ACE (Acute Care for Elderly) Unit with its Delirium Room at Des Peres Tenet Hospital, and the Medical Director of Bethesda Dilworth Nursing Home. His areas of interest and publication include hospital care of elderly patients, especially delirium; palliative and end of life care; medication use among older persons; and longevity research among Chinese nonagenarians and centenarians in collaboration with Sichuan University in Chengdu, China.

The Future of Healthcare--Imagined |
Inspired by a quote from Sir Muir Gray, "the future is imagined, planned and built," Haelo's Measurement Lead, Abigail Harrison took her camera to the Insitute for Healthcare
Improvement's (IHI) 25th National Forum to imagine what the future of healthcare could be.
In the film below, healthcare improvers and innovators such as Don Berwick, Sir David Dalton, and Jason Leitch, tell us how they think we can improve healthcare in the next 20 years through technology, patient owned data, patient centered care, and a focus on population health.

Aging Studies Project
Serving an Aging America
|
The ATSU Aging Studies Project (ASP) is a university-wide program that is managed by an inter-campus team of faculty and staff. It serves as a focal point for the University's interprofessional education activities. Its efforts are guided by advisory groups composed of students, faculty, elders, and community agency representatives.
The ASP values are:
- Freedom and autonomy of older people
- Enhanced quality of life for older people through their web of relationships
- Future health professionals respecting the uniqueness of older persons and recognizing older persons as partners in their healthcare
- Future health professionals understanding family, community and environmental resources that can empower the older person

ASP has been in existence since 2003, when the Board of ATSU accepted a Report from a University Task Force on Aging that recommended the creation of such an initiative. It was intended to be a catalyst for the ATSU response to the aging of America.
