Congratulations to NEMO AHEC HOSA Scholarship Recipients!
NEMO AHEC HOSA had funding available from their grant funders, Missouri Foundation for Health, to offer scholarships for HOSA members to attend health career exploration experiences this summer. Therefore, all of the students and HOSA advisors attending the National HOSA Leadership Conference (NLC) have received scholarships to cover their lodging and registration fees. Congratulations!

The National HOSA: Future Health Professionals Leadership Conference (NLC) was held on June 26-29 in Nashville, Tennessee. Students qualified for Nationals by placing in the Top 3 in their event at the Missouri State HOSA Leadership Conference. Of the seven students that qualified, five students from the NEMO AHEC Chapter, attended the NLC. The students competed in the following competitive events: Medical Law & Ethics, Sports Medicine, Human Growth & Development, Pathophysiology, and Nutrition.

They had a great time competing, listening to guest speakers, attending workshops, visiting with HOSA students from all over the country, and exploring Nashville! One of our students even described his experience as the "highlight of [his] summer."

We are very proud of them, and look forward to even more qualifying next year! Those that qualify will have the opportunity to attend the National Conference in Orlando, Florida.

2013 Summer M*A*S*H Camps

The Northeast Missouri AHEC conducted two  M*A*S*H (Missouri AHEC Science & Health) Camps this summer in Brookfield, at Brookfield Middle School, and in Lincoln County, at the Lincoln County Medical Center in Troy. Students were eager to learn more about the healthcare field, while also having fun with their friends. During the camp, students had the opportunity to learn how to suture chicken legs and pigs feet, perform cow eye dissections, learn basic first aid, tour their local ER, Ambulance District, and Air Evac Lifeteam, develop and film their own PSA, and more!
