District launched water tests this month

The district is testing all schools and support service facilities this month.

"We have no reason to believe we have water quality concerns at our schools. And we know the best way to reassure our families, students, staff and communities of schools' water quality is to run the tests, publish the results and document work done to respond to any test results at or over the Environmental Protection Agency limits." May 25 preview new health materials

Next fall, middle and high school students and staff will use new sexual health classroom materials. Those materials are being selected now. All interested are invited to review materials under consideration from 6-8 p.m. at the Community Resource Center on Wednesday, May 25.

What does it take to prep for college?

KING 5 and KONG TV will tell that story two times on Monday, May 23 (5:45 p.m. on KING and 7:15 p.m. on KONG).

Last week Mimi Jung interviewed Everett High senior Fatuma Musa and high school counselor Kendall Berry to tell one student's story.

Get ready to be inspired!

(Here Fatuma turns the corner to visit with her counselor about which college she has chosen. Sammy Seahawk cheers her on -- all decked out in his graduation cap!)
May 24 School Board meeting

The school board will meet in regular session on Tuesday, beginning at 4:30 p.m. in the Community Resource Center at 3900 Broadway in Everett.

The agenda and other board materials are online in BoardDocs.

May 24 Board meeting topic highlights

TOPIC
DETAILS
Policy 3213, Transgender students
May 24 is "first reading" for this policy. This is "step one" in the board's policy approval process. First reading opens opportunity for you to comment on draft policy language.

In addition to the regular board meeting "public comment" sessions (two public comment sessions at each board meeting), the district is also hosting an informational session the same night. The informational session is an opportunity to learn more about this policy -- and the safety and privacy accommodations already in place in schools for all students.

The information session takes place across the hall from the board meeting. It will begin at 4:45 p.m. and conclude in time for attendees to address the board during the board's second public comment session that evening. Or, those attending the information session may choose to leave written comments for the board.

Policies in "first reading" stage may be revised or adjusted before they come back to the board for a "second reading." The board welcomes your questions and suggestions on policy development.

Class of 2016 -- how are they progressing toward graduation -- and where are kids going after HS graduation?
Every year at this time, the board reviews info about this year's graduating class. This is part of the close monitoring done by schools student-by-student to support graduation success.

The board also reviews information about past graduates' education after high school
Capital planning update
What's on the horizon for capital projects now that voters approved the capital bond in April?
Who is the next student representative to the board?
Cascade High School Scott Pease will graduate in June and has served his two-year term as a student board rep. A student from Jackson High has been selected for a two year term and will be introduced to the board at the meeting on Tuesday.
