Reunification plans tested Oct. 1
Volunteers helped test our reunification plan at Everett Memorial Stadium. Police, fire, emergency response staff and other school districts jumped in to help, observe and learn.

We hope never to have to use this plan, but we are glad to have it and to have learned from testing it.

Everett's Emergency Management team were, "... impressed our district is leading the way with emergency preparedness."

Congratulations, Rick Wigre
Henry M. Jackson High school's art teacher is the 2015 Washington Art Teacher of the Year.

The school board will honor him on Oct. 6, and state art teachers will recognize his impact on students at their annual conference later in October.

Click on the photo for more information about how Mr. Wigre cranks up the creativity among his students.

If you have a 2015-16 student art calendar, you see an example of work from Mr. Wigre's class. Birdcaged, by Chan Ha Kim.

Works by Mr. Wigre also grace the district's student art collection on display in the Community Resource Center.

Students fluent in other languages can earn high school credit
Graduates in the class of 2019 and beyond must have two world language credits. Some could get those credits this fall - just by taking a test to affirm language skills.

Registration deadline for tests is Oct. 8
at each high school; test fees vary by language. Click on photo for more information.
Thank you, Everett Community College!
Earlier this month, Everett Community College Board of Trustees approved $300,000 to pay for College in the High School (CIHS) fees for students who otherwise would not be able to pay the fee. The college's board estimates more than 1,300 students will benefit from the allocation. The college will also waive the cost of college placement testing for qualifying students. The classes of 2019 (this year's freshmen) must earn 24 credits to graduate -- compared to 22 credits for classes of 2016 through 2018.

Everything you ever wanted to know about high school graduation requirements is online.

What are the district's plans for making sure enough World Language classes are available for students to meet the new state requirements for World Language?

What will be available for students who fail a class? Failing even one class puts a student off trajectory for graduation. How will the district provide other opportunities for students to learn and earn credits for that learning?

What are the costs involved in adding more classes for more credits?
Two time slots dedicated to hearing from you.
You can speak to the board two different times during the meetings. Check out the agenda for those times to share your thoughts with your school board.
