District earns $150,000 in grants and will partner with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Snohomish County
Working with students at North Middle School, Big Brothers and Big Sisters will help ensure middle school students attend school at least 95 percent of the time and pass each class -- a practice that makes the difference between students who almost certainly won't graduate from high school and those who will.

College Spark grant funds also expand Advanced Placement Expansion and Support Project from Cascade and Henry M. Jackson high schools to Everett and Sequoia high schools. With all four high schools in the program, the practices and supports will be institutionalized across the district, increasing the percentage of students who earn their first college credit in English or math while they are still in high school.

Five schools earn designation as Washington Achievement Schools

Five of the district's 26 schools qualify as among the state's top performing schools, based upon statewide assessment data for the past three consecutive years - 2014, 2013, and 2012.

Most of this year's winners have earned an achievement award before - as many as six times, in the case of Cedar Wood Elementary. Because the award is based upon continuous student learning measured over consecutive years, earning successive honors becomes more challenging over time.

Extended Graduation Rate

How is the class of 2015 progressing toward graduation?
Throughout the year, the board tracks the progress of each student of that year's graduating class. This spring presentation falls just prior to graduation and reviews how well students are prepared and the work done to support diploma access student-by-student.
New Student School Board Representative
Since 2011-12, two students have been advisory, non-voting members of the school board. This is to ensure the board hears a student perspective at its meetings. Student reps serve a two year term and are selected from applicants rotating among the district's four high schools. Senior Joseph Jackson will finish his term in June. The board will meet its new student representative, Amee Carrillo from Everett High School.
Resolution 1106 to negotiate purchase & sale agreement for Colby property
Of the six entities which submitted letters of interest to purchase the district's former Educational Service Center on Colby, the YMCA of Snohomish County's was deemed best.

District earns 27th annual award for excellence in financial reporting

Of Feb. 25, 2015 audit, Assistant State Auditor Erika Davies wrote, "I appreciate all the time and effort the district clearly dedicated to preparing and reviewing the statements. Thank you for your continuing commitment to accurate financial reporting."

The 295 state school districts provide monthly financial reports to their boards and year-end summaries of fiscal activities. As Washington's 12th largest school district, Everett has reported its annual fiscal activities in greater detail than the state requires. The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) provides greater transparency to the public.

The CAFR is independently reviewed by outside agencies and national associations to confirm its accuracy. The 2013-14 CAFR has been submitted to the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) and to the Association of School Business Officials (ASBO) for review. Each agency will complete its review by fall of 2015.
