Where's the calendar for 2015-16?
The calendar for next school year is part of the negotiations process with the teachers' bargaining unit. Negotiations for that contract began in April. The school calendar will be established during negotiations. The district will use the website, email, phone and text messaging system as well as media announcements to announce the calendar when contract negotiations are complete.
 It's even better in person!

Recognitions

Henry M. Jackson High science research students are honored for their projects.

Washington State PTA named the district's PTA Council the Outstanding PTA of the Year.

Athletic Director Robert Polk is the Washington State Athletic Director of the Year.

Two years ago CHS and JHS joined the Equal Opportunity School program to close the racial and income gap of students enrolled in Advanced Placement programs. Today, those gaps at CHS and JHS are completely closed. In fall 2015-16, EHS and Sequoia High will join the Equal Opportunity Schools program which has a waiting list of schools and districts wanting to partner with them.

Increasing Advanced Placement enrollment is one of many ways the district is preparing students for college and career success.
Associated Student Body budget presentations
Each year, ASB students present a summary of their annual activities and a plan and budget for the next school year. These legally-required presentations are a step in the process of the board's official budget adoption later in the summer.

These presentations are a testament to the quality of student leadership in schools and the multitude of programs they orchestrate for student peers.
Social studies curriculum materials approval
Work to screen and select new social studies materials for grades 6-12 began in September. During the April 14 board meeting, the selection team presented information about the materials under consideration and explained the rationale and process for choosing them.

The board will consider whether to approve the recommended materials, buying the materials in time for fall 2015 use in classrooms and paying for summer staff training to become familiar with the new materials.

The last time the district selected new social studies curriculum materials was in 2006.
