What do you know about the Smarter Balanced Assessments all students will take in the spring?

On Dec. 9, school board members will review the district's preparation to give these tests to students.
What might these
Different tests with different results
mean for students, families, teachers and schools?

Check it out online! You can take some practice tests to experience what students will be doing.

Do you have a four-year degree?
You might be able to substitute teach in Everett Public Schools

For those interested who do not have an appropriate teacher certification, but meet the district's employment qualifications, the district will request the state to issue emergency substitute certificates.

  • Substitute teachers
Do you have a four-year degree and successful experience working with youth? If so, you may qualify to substitute teach. Please apply online for the emergency substitute teacher posting #14-*10. Include a letter of interest, resume, two confidential reference forms, one being from a district employee, and three letters of recommendation. The district will provide training in classroom management, teaching strategies and other practical tips.

  • Substitute paraeducators

Dec. 9 board meeting topic highlights

TOPIC
DETAILS
Property decisions about Colby and Longfellow
Since earlier this fall, the district has sought and received community thoughts about best ways to use the Colby and Longfellow properties according to the Property Use Matrix.

The Capital Facilities Advisory Council has reviewed those thoughts. On Dec. 9, the board will consider the input and recommendations for best use of those properties in the future.
Progress toward graduation
Each year at this time, the board reviews data showing how well the upcoming graduating class is being prepared to graduate. This year's analysis of high school seniors' progress will highlight work to support special education students and students who do not speak English as their first language.
Classes offered for academically talented students
The board will review a recent study of the district's Highly Capable and Challenging Options program and next steps and implications for such programs in kindergarten through high school.
Different tests; different results
Smarter Balanced Assessments. All students will take those tests online this spring. Are we ready? How have we prepared? What else needs to be done?
