So much to be grateful for!
It DOES take an entire village ... and the many communities of Everett Public Schools are vital partners supporting student success. These overjoyed AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) students have each earned free tickets to a concert, courtesy of Xfinity Arena at Everett.

Countless other business partners, organizations and individuals share expertise and resources to support student learning. THANK YOU!

See Dr. Cohn's Thanksgiving message on his webpage.

So much to talk about!
Tuesday, Dec. 2 at North Middle School 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Meet with school board, state legislators, city and county officials and high school student leaders about school funding, school programs and partnerships

What IS the McCleary Decision? Why is it a challenge for the state Legislature? What does it mean for local schools?

How are schools in this district partnering with businesses and public agencies to share resources and expand student learning experiences?

Why doesn't the state contribute more to renovate older schools like North Middle School, and to provide space for all-day kindergarten?

What do students today have to say about what they are learning and what their schools need to prepare them for the 21st century?

Those are some of the questions and topics for discussion at the board's Community Conversation. More information about the meeting is online.
We can even be grateful for the weather -- if we are prepared. We've entered the "iffy" season when winds and snow can play havoc with roads and cause schools to close or start late.

Easy ways to get early-morning school schedules during bad weather
  • Email -- be sure your school has a valid email address for you
  • Phone call -- be sure your school has your current phone number
  • Text message -- does your school have your cell number?
  • Website -- everything about school closure and late start is on that page -- also information about snow routes for school buses, half day kindergarten and preschool. Bookmark that site so you can find it early in the morning -- even before you've had your coffee.

Are you a data geek?
How does the district's graduation rates compare to other districts? How does one school compare to another -- and to others in the state? What are district and school Advanced Placement score histories? And what about SAT scores? How do you interpret Student Growth Percentiles?

All this and more is on the district's  Assessment and Research website.

Do you know that the 2015 required tests will be all new?
You can learn about the spring Smarter Balanced Assessments and even try your hand at some of the practice tests to see what the students will be doing in the spring.
