Weather woes and schools. We've entered the "iffy" season when winds and snow can play havoc with roads and cause schools to close or start late.

Easy ways to get early-morning school schedules during bad weather
  • Email -- be sure your school has a valid email address for you
  • Phone call -- be sure your school has your current phone number
  • Text message -- does your school have your cell number?
  • Website -- everything about school closure and late start is on that page -- also information about snow routes for school buses, half day kindergarten and preschool. Bookmark that site so you can find it early in the morning -- even before you've had your coffee.

Update on student growth management and property management processes
Enrollment growth graphic Both topics are on the board meeting agenda for Nov. 18. For more details and timelines about those two processes visit the Facilities and Planning website. Click on "property management" or "student growth management" for timelines and to track the public processes.

Congratulations to Silver Lake Elementary and the Everett Public Schools Board of Directors
Silver Lake is a "School of Distinction;" the school board is a "Board of Distinction"
Silver Lake has earned 13 awards in seven of the last eight years for continuous student learning improvement!

Everett's Board of Directors is among only 17 of the state's 296 to earn this honor for 2014. Judges awarded this designation based upon criteria in annual awards nomination.

Are you a data geek?
How does the district's graduation rates compare to other districts? How does one school compare to another -- and to others in the state? What are district and school Advanced Placement score histories? And what about SAT scores? How do you interpret Student Growth Percentiles?

All this and more is on the district's  Assessment and Research website.

Do you know that the 2015 required tests will be all new?
You can learn about the spring Smarter Balanced Assessments and even try your hand at some of the practice tests to see what the students will be doing in the spring.
